Historia
They were confidantes to British prime ministers, poets, writers, and artists, their lives entwined with the most celebrated and scandalous figures of the day, from Oscar Wilde to Henry James. They were the lovers of great men - or men of great prominence... They lived in a world of luxurious excess, a world of splendor at 44 Belgrave Square and later at the even more vast Clouds, the exquisite Wiltshire house on 4,000 acres, the "house of the age", designed in 1876 by the visionary architect Philip Webb - the model for Henry James' The Spoils of Poynton.

Need pen, paper, guide to English peerage.
Revisado: 09-19-20
This is an interesting textbook. I listen to audio books “on the go” and the complicated political, social, and historical intertwinings are impossible to keep straight unless you have an extensive background in English history. The book is well written and narrated but definitely requires concentration. Irritated I could not return it.

Here is the first insider account of the precipitous fall of Hillary Clinton. How the scandals of a lifetime finally reached critical mass. How, in the last few days of the campaign, some on her staff saw the ghostly shroud of defeat creeping over them but were helpless to act, frozen by the self-denial of the group.

Americans didn’t just go to the polls in 2016. They joined a movement that swept the unlikeliest of candidates, Donald Trump, into the Oval Office. Can he complete his agenda? Or will his opponents in the media, protester class, and political establishment block his efforts and choke off the movement he represents?

Unlike Ann Coulter this woman should NOT read her own books. Content is mildly interesting voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. It works on television but not for an audiobook.

You have NEVER seen Ann Coulter like this before! Coulter is uncensored, unapologetic, and unflinching in her ruthless mockery of liberals, sissies, morons, hypocrites, and all other species of politician.Coulter doesn't stop at the politicians, though. Hear her skewer pundits, salesmen, celebrities, and bureaucrats with ruthlessness and hilarity. No topic is safe! This is Coulter at her most incisive, funny, and brilliant, featuring irreverent and hilarious material her syndicators were too afraid to print!

Got through it very small portion of this book, though I know what the content is from other sources. Ann Coulter should read her own books. She is a lively and vibrant author and the woman who reads this particular book could put an insomniac to sleep.

Historia
Millions of fans of Little House on the Prairie believe they know Laura Ingalls - the pioneer girl who survived blizzards and near-starvation on the Great Plains, and the woman who wrote the famous autobiographical books. But the true story of her life has never been fully told. Now, drawing on unpublished manuscripts, letters, diaries, and land and financial records, Caroline Fraser masterfully fills in the gaps in Wilder's biography.

Incredible.
Revisado: 03-02-18
Meticulously researched, extraordinarily well written. I would not call this work unbiased but Ms. Fraser’s personal views do not interfere with her presentation of the facts. If you are honestly interested in the truth behind the Little House books, this is a must read. It is long, complex and perhaps disillusioning to fans of the Little House books but Fraser brings to light a much deeper and inspiring Laura Wilder than most people have met yet.

Historia
For four consecutive years Shirley Temple was the world’s box-office champion, a record never equaled. By early 1935 her mail was reported as four thousand letters a week, and hers was the second-most popular girl’s name in the country. What distinguished Shirley Temple from every other Hollywood star of the period - and everyone since - was how brilliantly she shone.

Historia
A country girl named Polly is visiting city friends and comes to realize that this world is quite different than which she has left. Here people are judged according to their dress and manner of speech rather than for their honesty and hard work. Yet all who meet Polly cannot help but be enamored of her; her sweet simplicity is unlike any that they have ever seen, and soon everyone comes to realize that Polly is not someone to be laughed at and ridiculed, but someone to put upon a pedestal for failing to become willing prey to the cynicism of the times.

Narrator never heard of Louisa May Alcott
Revisado: 04-11-16
What disappointed you about An Old-Fashioned Girl?
What in the world possessed a narrator to give the characters in this book hillbilly accents!!??? Obviously she knew NOTHING about Louisa May Alcott, the story's setting, and the New England values of the time. I cannot believe that this got by whoever matches narrators to books. Hand her a copy of Gone With the Wind....obviously more her style. Her diction is good, had she simply read the book it would probably be a 5 star but her corny, totally inappropriate " voices" ruin the entire book for anyone who knows and appreciates Louisa May Alcott. I returned the title. Wish someone with more sense would create another edition.
What did you like best about this story?
The story line.
How could the performance have been better?
NO "voices"! Just read the book!!!!! Save the playacting for the stage...preferably a Southern one.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Anger, frustration, disappointment, total disbelief that an otherwise good narrator would be so far off base! The book is based in New England, for pete sake, not the hills of West Virginia!!!!
Any additional comments?
PLEASE get another reader ( not Flo Gibson). Most of the narrators of the Georgette Heyer romances are excellent...ditto tenfold the narrator of the James Herriot books.

Revisado: 06-30-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
"All about me" (author) using a dog as bait. Boring. Who cares.....
Has A Big Little Life turned you off from other books in this genre?
It certainly didn't help any.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Irritation.
Any additional comments?
Waste of time and money on everybody's part.

Historia
Titan is the first full-length biography based on unrestricted access to Rockefeller’s exceptionally rich trove of papers. A landmark publication full of startling revelations, the book indelibly alters our image of this most enigmatic capitalist. Born the son of a flamboyant, bigamous snake-oil salesman and a pious, straitlaced mother, Rockefeller rose from rustic origins to become the world’s richest man by creating America’s most powerful and feared monopoly, Standard Oil. Branded "the Octopus" by legions of muckrakers, the trust refined and marketed nearly 90 percent of the oil produced in America.

WOW! What a fascinating story!
Revisado: 12-17-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
YES! And I have, to anyone who will listen. This is a fascinating story of a man very few people know much about beyond his wealth. Chernow is both an excellent writer and a master of research. This is a long listen but it never bogs down. You will walk away having completely revised your understanding of Rockafeller. You may not like him any better but you will know him better.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Titan?
When I realized the origin of Spellman College in Atlanta, GA.
What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?
Everything, he is one of my favorite narrators. Knows when to emphasize and when to hold back, easy on the ears, good diction, pleasant tone.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end. I was sorry it was over.
