Historia
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

These books are so comforting, funny, and lovely. I love the Time Police series, but I hope we continue to see Max again in her own story (or an alternate universe Max!).

Historia
“Can I kiss you?” It was two months before the world premiere of Juno, and Elliot Page was in his first ever queer bar. The hot summer air hung heavy around him as he looked at her. And then it happened. In front of everyone. A previously unfathomable experience. Here he was on the precipice of discovering himself as a queer person, as a trans person. Getting closer to his desires, his dreams, himself, without the repression he’d carried for so long. But for Elliot, two steps forward had always come with one step back.

Historia
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls. And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out. We saved everyone. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong.

Historia
In this “vital, necessary, and beautiful book” (Michael Eric Dyson), antiracist educator Robin DiAngelo deftly illuminates the phenomenon of white fragility and “allows us to understand racism as a practice not restricted to 'bad people'" (Claudia Rankine). Referring to the defensive moves white people make when challenged racially, white fragility is characterized by emotions such as anger, fear, and guilt and by behaviors including argumentation and silence. These behaviors, in turn, function to reinstate white racial equilibrium and prevent meaningful cross-racial dialogue.

You are not as progressive as you think
Revisado: 06-15-20
I think assumptions are often made that this book is one to gift to your overtly racist uncle to show him the error of his ways. In reality, this book is for self-proclaimed progressive white people like myself; people who think they already understand what they need to do as a white person in America to address racism, but actually actively contribute to the problem with that self-identification.
I encourage everyone to listen to this book, as no matter how enlightened you believe you are about race, as it’s guaranteed you will still learn something new and valuable.

Historia
A new rip-roaring essay collection from the smart, edgy, hilarious, unabashedly raunchy, and best-selling Samantha Irby. Irby is 40, and increasingly uncomfortable in her own skin despite what Inspirational Instagram Infographics have promised her. She has left her job as a receptionist at a veterinary clinic, has published successful books and has been friendzoned by Hollywood, left Chicago, and moved into a house with a garden that requires repairs and know-how with her wife in a Blue town in the middle of a Red state....

Hysterical and highly relatable
Revisado: 06-14-20
I’m embarrassed to admit reading this book was my first exposure to Samantha Irby. She’s hysterical, highly relatable, and I want to be her best friend. She writes rawly about all the gross and embarrassing things women don’t dare speak aloud but ruminate on endlessly.
I am going to recommend this book to all my female friends and anyone else who wants to deep dive into Irvy’s mind. I certainly do, so I’m also going to pick up Irvy’s other books and likely read them all in one sitting.

Heartbreakingly beautiful
Revisado: 06-13-20
Trying to summarize this book is difficult, given that it’s at least four separate tales interwoven into one beautiful story. But when I try, I just say it’s a story that asks the questions: what defines a monster, and what does it mean to repent?
This is not a story that paints any figure who took part in any of the horrors at Auschwitz as forgivable. But it is still a study of human nature and an exploration of the impact doing such terrible things can have on the perpetrator, the victim, and the victim’s family years later. It’s a story about generational PTSD, and how one could possibly go about tackling it within their own family. The story does not provide any clear cut answers or resolutions for a situation where there is none, but the questions raised are more than enough to shine light on those ugly parts of being human that we hide and how heartbreakingly beautiful it can be to finally face them.

An Insanely Fun Listen
Revisado: 04-01-20
This book is hilarious, touching, and absolutely unique. I wouldn’t say it’s literary brilliance, but I would say it’s the most fun and enjoyable listen I’ve had in a long time. Kevin Wilson’s storyline somehow remains plausible and real, despite the fanciful plot line. I relate to Lillian on so many levels, as soon as I started listening, I had to immediately send this book to my friends.
Marin Ireland’s voice acting was just the cherry on top of this awesome book. She is a fantastic voice actor whose range encapsulated both Lillian’s inner cynic as well as the innocence of the children perfectly.

Historia
This is the last thing you'll ever see. Welcome to Daxton. The neighbor is crazy. The roommate is running a perpetual scam. Being degraded by the boss on a daily basis is part of the job. The children are willingly abducted. The probability of getting shot while purchasing groceries is high. And don't forget to fill your quota of junk strategically placed in your yard to be viewed from the street. Why would you want to live anywhere else?

A Book on a World Gone Trashy
Revisado: 03-30-20
This is a thematically bizarro story which isn't quite bizarre enough. I had hoped after the first few chapters that I was in for a truly unique experience, but instead the world in which Hold for Release Until the End of the World takes place feels more like a rehash of the movie Idiocracy, in which the population has devolved into a society where basic intelligence no longer exists and adults and children alike dole out immature insults at every opportunity. Had the author focused more on ramping up the atypicality of the fictional society rather than tweaking everyday experiences to be just slightly more annoying and over-the-top, the overtly juvenile dialogue may have stuck the landing a bit better.
