Historia
For all the attempts to understand the state of American politics and the blue/red divide, we've ignored what economic and cultural loss can do to pride. What happens, Arlie Russell Hochschild asks, when a proud people in a hard-hit region suffer the deep loss of pride and are confronted with a powerful political appeal that makes it feel "stolen"? Hochschild's research drew her to Pikeville, Kentucky, in the heart of Appalachia, within the whitest and second-poorest congressional district in the nation.

We’re More Alike than Different Across the Political Divide
Revisado: 11-25-24
This is a compelling story about residents of Pike County, KY, and why most of them are Republicans supporting Trump across all economic strata. None are deplorables and only one may be a racist. Quite like residents of NYC only a different pride/shame economy in place. Expanding economic opportunities and pride in rural America is a most to bridge our seemingly intractable political divide.

Historia
Ronald Hutton is known for his colorful, provocative, and always exhaustively researched studies on original subjects. This work is no exception: the first full-scale scholarly study of the only religion England has ever given the world, that of modern pagan witchcraft, which has now spread from English shores across four continents. Hutton examines the nature of that religion and its development, and offers a microhistory of attitudes to paganism, witchcraft, and magic in British society since 1800.

Comprehensive and engaging
Revisado: 10-31-23
This history is a layered, textured, and engaging story of a religion that few outsiders understand. For those interested in the history of modern religions or pagan witchcraft, a must read or listen. IMO the narrator here is perfect for this material.

Amazing Book!
Revisado: 07-15-21
Love this book. Incredibly compelling story of science confirming what people that live in connection with nature already know: it's deeply connected.
Usually find author as narrator not so good but Simard is awesome! Really draws you in and makes the story so personal.

A completely new way to think about our feet!
Revisado: 05-17-17
Loved this book for it's information about how to care for the foundation of our bodies. But also for it's clarity and humor.
Author/narrator draws you in. Out takes at the end are hilarious!
