London, 1930. The five greatest women crime writers have banded together to form a secret society with a single goal: to show they are no longer willing to be treated as second class citizens by their male counterparts in the legendary Detection Club. Led by the formidable Dorothy L. Sayers, the group includes Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, Margery Allingham and Baroness Emma Orczy. They call themselves the Queens of Crime. Their plan? Solve an actual murder, that of a young woman found strangled in a park in France.

Beyond probability
Revisado: 10-05-24
I liked the way the author wove together the skill of understanding probability as an actuary with the psychic intuitiveness of her mother.

The passion, perseverance and love for her horse that Sarah had.
Revisado: 07-25-24
This book was about survival and about selfless love. A grandfather for his granddaughter, between a girl and her horse. It was also a book about courage and flawed people trying to do the right thing. I am a fan of Jojo Moyes and this book may be my favorite of all her books.

Honesty is refreshing.
Revisado: 10-26-23
Cassidy Hutchison's story of her journey into a cult of personality helps explain how a patriot and an idealist can be pulled into a vortex of deception. The powerful part of this story is how she was able to extricate herself from it. This book is a reality check for anyone who wants to see beyond the lies and false narratives being sold as truth.

Too too much!
Revisado: 09-17-12
What did you love best about Mockingjay?
I loved the unpredictability of this book.
If you’ve listened to books by Suzanne Collins before, how does this one compare?
I think this book was the weakest of the three, though I loved the series. It would have been better for me if there had been less graphic violent imagery.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
It was a little too intense for me to listen to all in one sitting.

Jackson is a Philosopher With a Lot of Heart!
Revisado: 08-11-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Most definitely! The characters in this book became real, painted with words and voices that breathed life into them. They were real, but flawed as real people are. This is a story about love and loyalty, friendship and belonging, mistakes and Karma, and ultimately about finding one's self.
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty?
One of the most memorable moments among so many memorable ones, was when Big went into the room to face the lawyers and Cynthia Richardson. I was cheering for her and her mother lion courage.
Which character – as performed by Joshilyn Jackson – was your favorite?
I loved Mosey, and her teenage perspective, her colloquialisms and quirky way of seeing life as it unfolded for her.
If you could take any character from A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I'd invite Jenny (Big) out to dinner. She has so much life experience and such a good heart. Her common sense way of looking at life is a lesson in dealing with trials and tribulations that come with the territory of being in tough places but not losing sight of what is important.
Any additional comments?
I loved this book all the way through. What a talent this author has for crafting with words, and performing! She's got it all.
