Historia
Based on a groundbreaking in-depth survey of 22,000 Christian women, The Great Sex Rescue unlocks the secrets to what makes some marriages red hot while others fizzle out. Generations of women have grown up with messages about sex that make them feel dirty, used, or invisible, while men have been sold such a cheapened version of sex, they don't know what they're missing. The Great Sex Rescue hopes to turn all of that around, developing a truly biblical view of sex where mutuality, intimacy, and passion reign.

Top 3 Christian Books
Revisado: 02-25-23
There are very few Christian books that have truly stood out as life-changing, healing, and needed. This is one of them. If only I’d had this when I was 18.

Historia
California’s transformation into the most populous state in America and the home of some of the country’s richest citizens spread amongst Silicon Valley and Hollywood, was certainly no accident. California has always been one of the most diverse and multicultural states in the United States, way before it was a state at all, and even before the arrival of the Europeans.

Great Overview, Not Unbiased
Revisado: 07-02-22
Fantastic, lovely narration. Great overview of the history of this complicated state. However, if you’re looking for unbiased, straight history, this may not be it. Author’s political bias is apparent— which isn’t bad, necessarily, but something to note.

Historia
Meet Ove. He’s a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. But behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul.

Beautiful Story, Perfect Narrator
Revisado: 08-14-20
Second Backman work I’ve listened to on Audible (first was “Bear Town.”)— I love his ability to world-build. At first Ove annoyed me (as he does with most people he meets). It wasn’t long before I was completely engulfed in his world and this beautiful story. J.K. Simmons is the perfect voice for this as well. I believe he even gets a little emotional towards the end if you listen carefully. A good read for a true uplifting of the heart.

Historia
On July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained undetected by the navy for nearly four days and nights. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to stay alive, fighting off sharks, hypothermia, and dementia. By the time rescue arrived, all but 317 men had died. The captain's subsequent court-martial left many questions unanswered

Incredibly detailed and honouring story about the men who died and survived the sinking of the I.S.S. Indianapolis, including their wrongly court-marshalled Captain McVay. Fantastic narration. Gripping moments as well as heart-breaking ones... and all true. This story needs to be included in history books!

Took a While, But Enjoyable
Revisado: 07-30-18
Bought this after being thoroughly impressed and drawn in by Tchaikovsky’s “Children of Time”. His “Tiger and the Wolf” took a lot longer for me to latch onto, but eventually I began to feel myself caring for the characters (Hespric, Broken Axe, eventually Manye). Kyla Garcia has fantastic diction and does well with the character’s voices, but she has a habit of saying each sentence with the same inflection. Sometimes I wasn’t able to ignore it and it’d annoy me to the point of switching off the book. Still, this has all the lovely detail, world-building, and character development that Tchaikovksy is known for. As much as all the fight scenes began to be a groan, many of them were truly nail-biters. Tchaikovsky’s knowledge of animals really shines through in this and I enjoyed the world he created here. I may venture into the sequel.

Truly A Remarkable Read (Listen)
Revisado: 06-30-18
Listened to the audible version with my husband while on vacation and WOW did we enjoy this! Endless imagination, fantastic detail, fabulously paced, loveable characters, and Hudson’s narrating is superb. Tchaikovsky managed to create a story that is both plot and character-driven. All around a great journey. Would love to see this as a Netflix series!

Historia
RITA finalist Julie Klassen has earned numerous awards for her popular historical romance novels. In The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, pampered Margaret Macy flees her home in London to avoid marrying a dishonorable man. Now, with no money and no place to stay, Margaret does the unthinkable: she takes a job as a housemaid in the home of two brothers - both of whom are former suitors. As an “invisible” observer, Margaret realizes she may have misjudged one brother and wonders if it’s too late to win his admiration.

Sweet, intriguing period romance
Revisado: 09-24-17
My debut into Julie Klassen’s world. Intriguing storyline and sweet romance. I found myself smiling often and could not stop listening! Klassen seems to know and understand a lot about the Georgian era— many minute details brought the world to life! Some of the situations the protagonist found herself in seemed a bit far fetched, but not ridiculous. Jasicki’s narration was crisp and lively— she attempted to do all the voices and accents, which was great fun (to be honest, though, sometimes her earnest attempts at the male voices made it a bit cheesy, which is too bad). Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read! I will look for another Klassen novel soon!

Definitely benefitted from this classic and I'm not even engaged or married! But this has given great insight into myself and what I am drawn to in a partner. Hendrix's own narration is solid and easy to listen to.
