Historia
When Alice Greczyn's parents felt called by God to exchange worldly employment for heavenly provision, they followed their faith into homelessness with five children and a cat in tow. Homeschooled and avowed never to kiss a man until her wedding day, Alice had plans to escape by becoming a missionary nurse—plans that were put on hold with the opening of an unexpected door: the opportunity to be a Hollywood actress. What followed was a test of faith unlike any she had prepared for, one that forced her to learn to survive without the only framework for life she had ever known.

Honest, endearing, well-written, well-spoken
Revisado: 08-28-23
A must-listen! Alice invites the listener along on an exhausting and emotional journey through a young life with complicated layers, only further complicated by religion's grip on her family. She shares with great vulnerability and honesty, but never without compassion. Her reading performance is outstanding and enjoyable, an easy listen for a hard subject.

Historia
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

Highly entertaining!
Revisado: 09-29-22
Highly entertaining, thoroughly enjoyable, chock-full of wisdom and inspiration! He's lived a fascinating life, and I loved hearing about it firsthand. The pacing and delivery makes it feel like you're sitting around at a party listening to a good friend recount his best stories. I loved the Audible version, but I found myself so drawn to some of his insights that I'm going to buy a hardcopy as well just so I can study and underline the highlights.

Difficult story, bravely told
Revisado: 06-22-22
Sarah's bravery to share her story--warts and all-- takes the reader on a powerful journey. I appreciate how she humanizes the many victims, herself included. Life is not neat and tidy, and none of us knows what it would be like to be in her shoes, but she shared her story with great candor and made it easy to see how these horrific acts wind up justified or suppressed by the victims who want to believe their aggressors simply couldn't be that evil. The desire to see the good in people, the hope for promises made to be fulfilled, and the helplessness of running out of options all pave the road to a trap that feels impossible from which to break free. I am thankful she found her voice and is sharing it with the world.

Historia
The Jesus movement of the '70s was a heady time. It was a time of Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell. It was a time of the Doobie Brothers telling us that “Jesus Is Just Alright with Me”, and Norman Greenbaum singing about a “Spirit in the Sky”. It was a time when Jesus was going to return any day, according to the best-selling book The Late Great Planet Earth. It was a time of the Rapture, Armageddon, and the Antichrist. Dave Warnock’s faith took root during this intoxicating era.

A Powerful Journey!
Revisado: 03-25-22
This book is worth your time in any format, but the audiobook was outstanding. Dave invites you to join him on his lifelong journey through a wide range of experiences that he shares with endearing transparency and vulnerability. He tackles big topics with hard-earned wisdom and humility that make you reconsider why human beings subscribe to certain values and beliefs. It's a healthy challenge for anyone who claims to have all the answers, and a knowing smile to those with only questions.

Favorite audiobook to date!!!
Revisado: 03-23-21
An excellent listen! I had this in my library for a year, waiting for the right time to start it, and now that I've finished it I wish I hadn't waited so long. Lori's storytelling is outstanding. I love the visuals painted by her words, I love her vocabulary (which has added some new words to my own), and I love how she shares the essence of the human experience in various forms.
I enjoyed the format of hopping around between her personal and professional story and her patients' stories. It could have become easily disjointed, but she wove them all together in a way that felt natural and entertaining. I learned much about myself while listening, and feel better for having consumed this book.
Plus, now I'm looking for other books narrated by Brittany Pressley. She made this an easy, thoroughly enjoyable listen. Clear, pleasant voice, beautifully enunciated, with fantastic inflection and personality.

Essentialism is more than a time-management strategy or a productivity technique. It is a systematic discipline for discerning what is absolutely essential, then eliminating everything that is not, so we can make the highest possible contribution toward the things that really matter.

Life-Changing
Revisado: 02-05-20
A life-changing guide to cutting through the noise and focusing in on what matters. McKeown offers simple - though not easy - strategies for making better use of our time, energy, resources, and relationships. I've always appreciated quality over quantity, but felt pressured by society to perform to its quantitative standards. This book was like the ultimate permission slip to get out of that rut and take control of my life in a way that better serves me and everyone in my vicinity through intentional, specific, meaningful efforts. The book is an excellent mix of anecdotes, helpful information, and clear instruction.
