Short and thought provoking, this was a well thought out and presented guide to reevaluating your relationship with money from a personal, societal, and financial market systems lens. LOVED the narrative style, such a pleasant change from the stiff read-to effect you often get with these types of books. Part painting the contextual landscape and part guiding the listener through some mostly thought-based exercises, I felt that for me the seed ideas in this book will influence my thinking around money irreversibly. Makes me want to have regular coffee dates with the author so I can get her take on all life's curves!

Hard subject matter, but very thought provoking. A real portrait of human beings grappling with life's frivolous and serious considerations while existing in community.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I enjoy listening to the French for a challenge, and it fit the bill perfectly!

What did you like best about this story?

The characters are such...characters!

What does Lionel Bourguet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

It brings the story alive to hear the voice.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Man rubs his knee, solves crimes!

Any additional comments?

The style is a bit contrived, but enjoyable as fiction.

Where does Les Apparences rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am familiar with the story in English so enjoyed listening to it in French as a challenge. Nice performance and easy to follow along with the dual narration.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot and characters are really engaging.

What does Odile Cohen and Julien Chatelet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I have read it in English, and was listening to it in French for a challenge. They acted the characters well, and made for engaging listening.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Most of it is pretty thought provoking.

Any additional comments?

Love how open to interpretation/opinion this story is!

Would you try another book from Conrad Potts and Suszanne Potts and/or India Fisher?

I wouldn't rule it out, but I think I got what I was interested in getting from this topic.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The advantages of practicing assertiveness, and distinction between assertiveness and aggressiveness is a good reminder.

What aspect of India Fisher’s performance would you have changed?

Not an issue.

Do you think Assertiveness needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

For some maybe, not for me.

Any additional comments?

I think this book is great for people who err on the passive side, but if people err on the aggressive side in tone, body language, or facial expressions then I feel like the wording this book suggests as examples may still come across aggressively. I think more finesse can be achieved to marry assertiveness with diplomacy and social tact.

Would you try another book from Nicholas Boothman and/or Nicholas Boothman?

Not likely, although there were some interesting thoughts/tips it was really not ground breaking compared to other more in depth books I have read.

Has How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less turned you off from other books in this genre?

I didn't want to judge this book by it's cover which seemed a bit gimmicky, but it essentially was. It referred to many other deeper theories about first impressions, trust, confidence, and interpersonal connections, but other books have done a better job. I think this book's niche is in the quick and easy surface stuff which comes across gimmicky.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nicholas Boothman?

Not an issue.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It did refer to important underlying considerations for why interpersonal connectedness is important, but was too surface level not to be gimmicky. I see it more as a seminar than as a book.

What did you love best about The Behavior Gap?

Just the reminder it gave to keep common sense in perspective when it comes to finances. Sure, I know this, I have been told this, but doing it needs frequent nudges.

What other book might you compare The Behavior Gap to and why?

His other book, the one page financial plan, which I read first and appreciated the simple style of for wrapping our minds around these ideas - focusing on the simple, important actions rather than the minute complicated peripheral traps of financial savvy.

What about Carl Richards’s performance did you like?

He was relatable.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just how simple and true of a reminder it was to just make big strides in the right general direction and not get all psyched out about details.

Any additional comments?

Great little reminder primer for financial common sense.

This is not a book that cushions the corners, so if that is what you want look elsewhere! Straight to the point, no excuses manifesto and rallying call! I listen when ever I need a booster shot of gumption.

Would you listen to The Paradox of Choice again? Why?

I found the ideas presented in this book fascinating and exactly relevant to several situations I had recently faced. Hearing the psychology and social factors affecting our perceptions of choice and happiness really helped me put things in perspective. Many of the ideas may have seemed repetitive due to the subtle nuances between them, but I enjoyed the thought exercise of listening to this.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Paradox of Choice?

The distinction between choices and attitudes that delight and empower and the choices that detract from overall quality of life.

Which scene was your favorite?

There were plenty of examples, which I always like.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The idea that good enough was actually in many ways the optimal option!

Any additional comments?

Many people seem to have commented negatively about the narration style, but I found it just fine! Of course, there were a few odd pauses and pronunciations of certain words that I wouldn't have used, but such is life - overall, very clear and engaging.
