A little simple, but I like Spark's Ladies!

Sparks writes some very relatable, strong women. Not "I'm a dude" Marvel Supers, but strong women that other women would see as strong. I like that. And I like that the romantic hero in this book is into that. I guess because a lot of the most romantic women I know are also kind of feral, and I want them to find a man who wants that for their own life. Anyway, anyone a little feisty who needs to remember there are guys who want that should take a little vacation to Ivy Spark's world over here. Again, love the narrator she's chosen for this series!

Something is definitely off about this mission. Sending a peace officer like me out into the middle of nowhere in a rusted spaceship… Well, let’s just say it’s not standard protocol. Somehow, Valmore, my new bodyguard, soothes my nerves. While he looks like a devil, with his red skin, sharp horns, and sultry eyes, I soon learn there’s much more to him than his beastly appearance.

If you are into HUUUUUNK this is going to absolutely hit the high notes for you. I like the attitude that comes from hunks, but I'm usually into nerdier types. But hey, this is escapist fantasy. I can enjoy this world for what it is. Definitely liked the narration.

I expected something to go wrong during this expedition but I didn't expect him. This planet was supposed to be unpopulated. Well, someone needs to be fired, because there are freaking barbarians here! And they aren't exactly friendly. But then there's Garath. He's different from the rest. There's something about his devilish horns, his striking tattoos, and his possessive stare that sets my body on fire.

If you like your heroes HUNKY (all caps on purpose!) this is going to work for you really well. If you like a smart heroine who doesn't 'dumb down' to get her man as well, this is so going to tick those boxes too. However, on a scale of sweet to sticky intimate scenes, this is very, very sticky! Not 100% my style, but if it's yours, you are going to be wildly happy with this novel. It will definitely keep it spiiiiicy.
I agree with everyone else who says this narrator does a great job bringing a larger cast to life. Extra star just for the narration here.

We know the tropes, but this delivers!

It's a steamy romance with a veneer of sci-fi. I mean, we know what we are getting. But that doesn't mean this doesn't deliver exactly what you hope for in this title. It's a lot steamy, a little cheesy, but a whole lot of fun. I'm giving the overall rating a whole star boost for the excellent narration. I can absolutely tell it's all one narrator, but Blau uses a lot of tricks both in the sound booth and in the processing to give a truly cinematic experience of the story.
