Historia
By age thirty, Stephanie Foo was successful on paper: She had her dream job as an award-winning radio producer at This American Life and a loving boyfriend. But behind her office door, she was having panic attacks and sobbing at her desk every morning. After years of questioning what was wrong with herself, she was diagnosed with complex PTSD—a condition that occurs when trauma happens continuously, over the course of years.

Amazing!

This is not an easy book to listen to but so incredibly worth it! Stephanie Foo is brave and skilled in her journalism, research, vulnerability, authenticity. Her narration and, toward the end of the book, recordings of therapy sessions are raw and real and beautiful. I feel gratitude for her having shared her journey.

I definitely learned some good tips from this book but it could have been much shorter. I also found the narrator a bit annoying.

Historia
If it weren’t for Emma Johnson, Caryn Johnson would have never become Whoopi Goldberg. Emma gave her children the loving care and wisdom they needed to succeed in life, always encouraging them to be true to themselves. When Whoopi lost her mother in 2010—and then her older brother, Clyde, five years later—she felt deeply alone; the only people who truly knew her were gone. Emma raised her children not just to survive, but to thrive. In this intimate and heartfelt memoir, Whoopi shares many of the deeply personal stories of their lives together for the first time.

Now, most people have heard of ADHD and know someone who may have it. But lost in the discussion of both childhood and adult diagnosis of ADHD is the potential upside: Many hugely successful entrepreneurs and highly creative people attribute their achievements to ADHD. Also unknown to most are the recent research developments, including innovations that give a clearer understanding of the ADHD brain in action.

deus ex machina galore!
Revisado: 02-06-24
Sorry, I loved children of time, and really enjoyed the start of the book with a world with a too barren ecosystem to maintain.. and on the brink of breakdown. But then: it's all a simulation? please! too me it felt too much of an easy way out for the writer. A pity!

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

a bit too gory for me. However, it does shed a (dark) light on history, which we normally look away from. And, excellent narration!

Historia
Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

This book is the best I’ve read on the topic of trauma and healing. It has helped me to understand myself and others better. It opens a door not only to understanding, but also to empathy and self-compassion. It’s wonderfully narrated by Bruce D. Perry and Oprah. They have done a marvelous job together.

Historia
It's easy to identify rage in people who lose their temper at traffic jams, unruly children, unresponsive coworkers, and unrealistic bosses. But we may not recognize more subtle manifestations of anger, such as being uncomfortable with loose ends, acting impatiently, or being overly critical. That is anger, too. And, as is so often the case, angry folks don't seem to realize that the behavior causing them problems at home or at work actually stems from unrecognized and unresolved pain and emotional injuries from the past.

Learned a ton!
Revisado: 05-16-23
Wouldn’t it be great if you learned about having a healthy relationship to your anger and how to be calmly assertive in a class in high school? Unfortunately, most of us don’t learn this in school or at home. That’s why we need Les Carter’s wisdom in this world! This was one of the most useful books I’ve ever listened to. Now, I’m going to buy myself a paper copy so I can refer to it whenever needed.
