Just finished listening for my second time and completely enjoyed it again! So we’ll written and researched and read!

It’s great listening to the English accent who actually does very nice “subtle” voice changes when quoting John, Paul, George or Ringo.

Highly, highly recommend!!

I was a big fan of Charles Duhigg's "The Power of Habit", and was very surprised that this book, being a significant step away from his previous book's topic could be so effective - but it was and then some! I ended up buying several copies of the physical book (including one for myself) to provide with coworkers and other work associates. I rarely buy books to give to other people unless I am confident they will enjoy it as much as I did. I truly can't think of a better non-fiction writing style than Duhigg's, in that he combines engaging stories, with eye-opening facts, with solid conclusions and advice. Every chapter is like a nice crescendo of capturing the audience with a story, applying that story to business or personal life, and finally giving ideas and concepts that you can't ignore. This is one of the rare books in my library which I will listen to again several times, as well as continue to recommend this as one of the essentials so many businesses should read!

I was a little skeptical at first because I've downloaded and listened to these type of bold or cheeky books before that are written with a bit of an "edge" punctuated with swear words.

First of all, I was pleased that the author does not actually lace his content with a bunch of profanity just to make himself edgy. Although they are in there every once in a while, they are purposeful and effective when they are used (as well as a bit humorous).

I will confess that the author's voice and accent made it so much easier to listen to the entire book. I also found his writing to be very genuine, with a sincere desire to help the reader "unfu*k" him or herself.

The length of the book was perfect, and the ideas were applicable and useful. Gary John Bishop is a perfect example of someone telling you something that you've already heard and likely already know - but he does it in a way that makes you think, "yeah, I need to do that", or "that's what I need to fix".

So even though some of the ideas he shares may be things you've heard many times before from many other people - you'll find that the way he says it, or the way he describes it - just seems to hit you in a different way that it sticks, and has a meaningful impact on you.

Skip the First 3 Chapters

If you're even going to attempt to get through this book, skip the first 3 chapters entirely - and then be prepared to skip through big pieces and parts throughout.

The content you want and need is in there, and he has some great insights - but they are hidden between mountains of useless and repetitive information.

Brandon hasn't quite realized yet that unless you're writing an autobiography, the book is not about you. He spends the first three chapters just telling you how marvelous he is and how many people he's worked with and how many bajillion people watch his videos and subscribe to his stuff. He also spends tons of time talking about these "high performers" they've researched and talked to, and gives you a bunch of statistics about them and how great they are. Eventually you start thinking, "Isn't this book supposed to be for me?"

As previously mentioned, there are some great parts with exceptional insights - and I kept wishing for the "Cliff Notes" to download so I could get through the incredible amount of "fluff" (as other reviewers have mentioned). Brandon doesn't seem to have developed a way to bring variety to the way he presents information and concepts. Throughout the book, the structure is the same, with the introduction of an idea, telling you how high performers do it, a few fluff stories, a whole bunch of "me, me, me" stories and examples, and a couple of bullet lists of thoughts or ideas which you could have found on a blog anywhere else.

Brandon, if you or any of your staff read this... keep in mind that people want meat and potatoes (unless they're vegetarians). Don't talk about how great meat and potatoes are, don't talk about how you and other people have meat and potatoes and others don't, don't talk about the statistics of meat and potato eaters compared to non-meat and potato eaters - and especially don't talk endlessly about how you eat your meat and potatoes and how many athletes, celebrities, CEO's and others have eaten meat and potatoes with you.

Talk to the reader, identify with us. Talk to the people that have had meat and potatoes in the past but no longer do, and exactly how they can have them again. Talk to the people that desperately dream of meat and potatoes, and give them the exact plan and the motivation to do that.

There is a bad, bad trend happening in the self-help book world which I am finding simply because of the amount of books I like to read and listen to. That trend is the authors thinking that if they impress us with how great they are, and tell us over and over again how they think and how they do things and how they are successful - without connecting the dots to the listener - that somehow we'll like the book because we the paupers and they are the kings. (Noone wants to disagree with the King, right?)

In the end, the listener doesn't care about you... we care about us. When you align your content and book to focus more on us and less on you - you'll find even greater success than you're currently bragging about.

Brandon, do yourself a favor and listen to or read anything by Brené Brown - sure, we get to know about her - but in a true and authentic way. Brené doesn't talk to her readers from a perspective of "I am here and you are there," which Brandon does FAR too much... she talks to her readers from a perspective of "I'm you, and you're me, and we're right here together."

I really admire Brandon and consider him a mentor from the standpoint of wanting to do and accomplish many of the things he has done. Again, I REALLY DO like the content and I think it's useful, so you'll still get a lot out of the book. But he could deliver the content in a much, much better way and build a true connection with his audience.

Productivity and project management for creatives!

If you're a right-brained creative who struggles with productivity and project management, then you'll really get a lot out of this book!

Scott Belsky does not really break new ground with any of the concepts in this book, but he does put the popular ideas and techniques into strategies and techniques that work for creatives and creative teams.

Scott really identifies with the struggles that artists, designers, writers, etc. face with getting things done. He takes the concepts that you may have already heard about or learned from David Allen's "Getting Things Done" and makes them really work for this type of industry mindset.

I got so much out of the audiobook that I went out and purchased the physical book as well to use as a quick reference and reminder, which I refer to frequently when I start to feel overwhelmed. The "Action Method" introduced in the book is applicable not only in how I organize my projects and tasks, but also in how I organize my files and other resources.

Where David Allen's GTD leaves the productivity management concepts relatively broad, Scott Belsky fine tunes and sharpens those concepts for creative professionals in a very effective way!

I was fortunate to have listened to this audiobook before I found out about Brené Brown's successful TED talks, and more recently her latest bestseller, "Daring Greatly".

In my opinion, you can actually get just as much (if not more), out of this shorter book than you can with "Daring Greatly". Although Brené offers a short review of the concepts found in this book at the beginning of "Daring Greatly", I think the overview does not illustrate how powerful these principles and ideas can be.

I found this book, including the 10 guideposts she talks about, to be much more concise and it really hit the emotional nail on the head for me. This is one book that I have recommended to friends and family again and again.

I listen to a lot of these "personal development" audiobooks, and so it is rare that I find one that truly stands out among the rest. Do not overlook this book before diving into "Daring Greatly"! And if you've already read "Daring Greatly", then I think you'll find this book to be much more direct in focusing on what you can do personally to attack those feelings of being "not enough".

My only negative comment is that the narrator is really slow and is too muted and fluffy. After hearing Brené's TED talks, I really wish she would have read the books herself. If possible on your listening device, put this book on 1.25 to 1.50 speed and you won't miss a thing and you can finish in less time!

Just Finished My Third Time Listening

Manage Your Day-to-Day is a perfect blend of information and insights that I have been able to use immediately in my day to day work. The variety of content is exceptional due to the fact that this is more of a compilation of ideas, which is very beneficial because productivity is more of a "finding what works for you" - so you're sure to find content that meets your style of work.

Due to the short length, I love the fact that I can re-listen and remind myself of the nuggets that are found throughout.

NOTE: I would recommend having a way to jot down a few notes while listening, especially when they give you some "hidden" web addresses with additional resources from 99U.

This Book is Halfway Done

The author did an excellent job of identifying the problems, with very little effort in offering the solutions. He spends a lot of time perfectly describing the issue, the pain associated with it, and potential causes - and then a wisp of time offering super high-level ideas without getting deep into the answers.

John Burke seems to love offering these lists of things to do, but doesn't want to spend the time detailing the items in those lists. A "typical" list item would be something like, "try to be more positive in how you perceive your goals", which leaves the listener saying, "well... duh... AND..?"

The book is 1 hour and 14 minutes. If John could go back and make the solutions and the answers less vague and more concrete and perhaps create a 2 hours and 30 minutes book... then I think he could really have something great here.
