The most charming cozy series!
Revisado: 09-24-23
It's been many years since I first read "Death At The Cafe" and started on this wonderful journey with Reverand Annabelle Dixon. So it's been equally as wonderful to have these characters brought to life while I listened to the audio books in "The Reverand Annabelle Dixon Mysteries: Books 1-4 in the Reverand Annabelle Dixon Collection Book 1"
Here's a bit about each story.
1. Death At The Cafe - We get to know our cake-loving Reverand Annabelle Dixon as she's reluctantly starting her first assignment in London. She wanted a peaceful rural village but because of the shortage, she agreed to this.
As Annabelle arrived at the cafe to have tea with her life-long friend Mary, she saw a woman lying on the ground. Before the paramedics got there, a doctor walked up to check the woman's pulse but then he disappeared. Mary realized the woman had handed her a note.
Annabelle and Mary can't help but follow the clues and enjoy as much cake as they can along the way as they try to solve this mystery.
2. Murder At The Mansion - It is now Annabelle's third year and she's in the rural village of Upton St. Mary. She loves driving her royal blue mini-cooper, still loves cake and loves being Vicar of St. Mary's. She has won over the villagers.
Phillipa, the church secretary, began gossiping about a new person, John Cartwright, who moved into Woodlands Manor. Annabelle decided to do a welcome visit. As a blonde woman opened the door, they heard a scream. When they went upstairs, a door was locked so the blonde went for a key but never came back. Annabelle got the door open and found a man lying on the floor beneath the window. There's an arrow in his chest.
There's a great cast of characters including Inspector Mike Nicols and Constable Jim Raven along with Biscuit who is the church's cat and appears to be gaining weight.
3. Body In The Woods - Master Douglas (Dougie) Dewer- age 8- was having a tough week. He had quite an imagination...pretending to be an adventurer and determined to save civilization. But on his way home from school on a Friday, he tripped and went flying. When he realized he tripped over a bone, Dougie ran home to his Aunt Shona who he's staying with while his mom is having chemo treatments, and told her what happened. Along with Inspector Mike Nicols and Constable Raven, Dougie and his Aunt Shona unearthed an elbow.
Reverand Annabelle visited Shona and Dougie. Shona mentioned that Louisia Montgomery's sister, Lucy, has been missing and presumed dead for 20 years. It looks like Reverand Annabelle has another mystery to solve.
4. Grave In The Garage - Reverand Annabelle is walking around the cemetary at St. Mary's without her usual feeling of peace and tranquility. The cemetary needs an expensive redo but after three fundraisers, there's still not enough money. After visiting with Jeremy (he's been the church organist for six months), Reverand Annabelle decided to go for a drive in her mini-cooper. It started making noises and then eventually stopped so she got a ride to Mildred's Garage. It was unusually quiet. Annabelle looked around and saw what looked like a hand then she realized it was Mildred who was very still.
What's going on in Upton St. Mary? Is Mildred's death a part of something much bigger? Who would benefit from her death? And why are many families having financial troubles?
Reverand Annabelle Dixon is brought to life by Penny Scott-Andrews who does a beautiful job as narrator. Thanks so much to Alison Golden for giving me the opportunity to listen and review. I highly recommend this special series with characters who feel like friends.

A Fun Cozy Mystery
Revisado: 05-16-21
The Cottage on Gooseberry Bay is a series by Kathi Daley that came out last year. If you want to jump right in, this boxed set is the way to go. The narrator is Angel Clark who has captured Ainsley's personality and is a delight to listen to.
Book 1 is Halloween Moon. Ainsley Holloway, along with dogs Kai & Kallie, have come to Gooseberry Bay looking for answers to her past. She started having dreams after finding a diary in her adopted dad's possessions that lead her to believe she has family in Gooseberry Bay that she can't remember. Ainsley rents a cottage, meets Parker, Jemma and Josie and quickly becomes involved in a mystery in addition to finding clues to her past.
In Book 2, Thanksgiving Past, Ainsley meets Adam Winchester and hopes that he's the key to finding some clues that will help her get information about her family. She and her friends are also trying to find out what happened to an entire family that disappeared on Thanksgiving five years earlier.
Book 3 is Gooseberry Christmas and it's time for the Christmas Festival. Ainsley is excited to celebrate with her new friends so they decide to help out at the local tree lot. When a body is found on the lot, of course they want to get involved with solving the crime. With the holidays and this new mystery, Ainsley decides to wait to get more information about her possible family.
Cottage on Gooseberry Bay is a fun, cozy mystery series that has heart, adventure and you'll fall in love with these characters just like I did. I'm excited to see where Ainsley's search takes her and what mysteries come her way!
Thank you Kathi Daley for the audible code! I enjoyed listening so much and this is my honest review.

Paranormal Gone Cozy!
Revisado: 01-18-21
Paranormal is not usually my cup of tea but if Dianne Harman is going cozy with it, I'm in!
Miranda Riley lives in Las Vegas working as a blackjack dealer. She receives a call from Jack Winslow who is the Chief of Police in Little Feather, OK where she's from. Her mother still lives there and Jack informs Miranda that she's missing. Eve is a PI and it could be related to a case she's working on.
So Miranda drives home and finds a world she's unfamiliar with. After meeting several people in town and finding out new things about her mom, as well as others, she's on her way to hopefully finding Eve.
I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline! The ending was satisfying and left me wanting to know what's going to happen next. The narrator, Krystal Doolittle, is also the co-author and did a wonderful job!

In continuing her career-makeover quest as a for-real detective, ex-teen and reality star Maizie Albright has a big learning curve to overcome. A sleuthing background starring in a TV show - Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective - does not cut the real-life mustard. It doesn't even buy her lunch, let alone extra condiments. Her chosen mentor, Wyatt Nash of Nash Security Solutions, is not a willing teacher.

A Fun Cozy Mystery
Revisado: 11-29-20
16 Millimeters is the second book in Larissa Reinhart's Maizie Albright series and it's just as fun as 15 Minutes! I listened to the audio book which is narrated by Joan Dukore. She has done a terrific job bringing Maizie to life as well as the entire cast!
Maizie has been doing routine office work at Nash Security Solutions when she's approached by Leonard Chapelton who is a movie producer looking for someone to look after his leading lady, Cambria. Maizie had worked with "Cam Cam" on Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective so she's the perfect person to watch over her without Cam Cam knowing she's being watched. But when Maizie shows up at the hotel room, something's not right and the job turned into more than just babysitting. Nash gets involved so things get complicated with them. Then as things progress she's being told she's been seen at places where she hasn't been and what really happened to Cambria?
If you want a fun read with suspense, a bit of romance and a lot of laughs, 16 Millimeters is the right choice!
Thank you Larissa Reinhart for the opportunity to listen to your book!

A Fun Cozy Mystery
Revisado: 08-02-20
Murder In Cottage #6 is the first in Dianne Harmon's Liz Lucas Cozy Mystery Series. I listened to the audio book and really enjoyed it!
I like that Liz is in her 50's and has some life experience. She owns a spa that she and her husband bought before he passed away. There is a death at the beginning of the story (who happens to be the Mayor's wife) and this takes Liz on the journey of trying to solve it. I really like the characters in the story. The spa staff are friends and family to Liz, as well as her best friend, and Rodger who she's just starting to date. And also Brandy Boy who is a St Bernard & the spa dog and Winston (a gift from Rodger) comes along to keep her safe.
And then there are great recipes at the end of the book. What a treat!
Erin deWard narrated the book. Her tone was wonderful when she was reading naturally but when she was being emotional, she was a bit breathy for me. Otherwise she did a good job.
Thank you Dianne Harmon for this audio book. I look forward to listening to Liz's next adventure. This is my honest opinion.

A Funny and Light Hearted Listen
Revisado: 07-25-20
15 MINUTES is a funny and light hearted story that was just what I needed!
Maizie Albright was a teen television detective who has outgrown the part. She's had some troubles and must find a job in 10 days and keep it. So Maizie goes home to Black Pine, GA and tries to get a job working for Wyatt Nash, Owner of Nash Security Solutions. He gives her a chance and has her watching a client's wife. Let the fun begin!
Joan Dukore captured Maizie and the fun cast of characters perfectly! I look forward to listening to the next book in the series.
Thanks so much Larissa Reinhart for the opportunity to listen and review.

Fantastic! Must Read!
Revisado: 02-16-20
WOW!! There are not enough stars to rate this fantastic book! I had heard good things about Big Lies in a Small Town so when I saw that Susan Bennett was the narrator, I knew it would be a good listen. But oh my goodness, this book took me on a journey that will stay with me! I fell in love with Anna Dale and Morgan Christopher from the first page and thoroughly enjoyed their journey's told in alternating chapters that made it easy to keep up with and had me wanting more after each chapter. The way these women's live's became intertwined throughout and the unexpected last few chapters took my breath away. Brilliant storytelling by Diane Chamberlain! This was my first book by this author but it won't be my last.

Historia
It’s rumoured that Dickens wanted to return to his classic novel Oliver Twist, to bring him back into a later book as an older character, but he never managed this before he died. However, if Oliver had returned, what would he have been like? Would the scars of his childhood affect the man he would become? And what of ‘Dodger’, sent to a land halfway around the world, his friend, mentor and master dead because of Oliver? Dodge & Twist is that story. The tale of two boys, 12 years later, returning into each other’s lives - for both good and bad.

Revisado: 07-04-19
This was my first Audible Original and I enjoyed it very much! It was a little difficult for me to understand in some parts with all the sound effects...as though I was listening to a movie and I couldn't see what was happening. And because I'm a visual person, it wasn't easy for me to always tell the voices apart without being able to picture the actors.
As someone who saw Oliver in the theater as a kid, I really appreciate this performance and thought the story was a wonderful follow-up. I'll be listening to it again!

Great new series!
Revisado: 05-10-19
A Willing Murder is the first in a new series by Jude Deveraux and I'm hooked! Sarah, her niece Kate and Sarah's house guest Jack are my new favorite amateur sleuths! After Kate moves to town for her new job, she moves in with Sarah and their lives will never be the same. This unlikely trio has to go back in time 20 years to help solve a murder and that experience helps the three of them bond. These characters have a rich history that leaves plenty of room for relationships to grow stronger and for more cases to be solved.
What I enjoyed about listening to this book on audio was the narrator's accent and how she brought out the sense of humor in these characters. I look forward to the next one!

A Great Story!
Revisado: 04-01-19
This was my first on a couple of levels. My first CeeCee James book and my first audio book. I've had this author in my TBR pile for some time and I'm so glad I was finally able to listen to "Booked for Murder: An Oceanside Mystery".
In this first book of the series, Maisie Swenson is starting her new job as Manager of the Oceanside Hotel. There is a convention booked so she's jumping right in and little does the part-time mystery writer know that she'll be trying to solve a murder. Love the quirky cast of characters, especially Maisie's mom and their basset hound Bingo. There are funny moments and it'll keep you guessing until the very end.
I don't have anything to compare it to but I think the narrator did a great job and I have to say I'm hooked on audio books!
Thanks so much CeeCee James for this experience. I look forward to the next adventure at the Oceanside Hotel. (less)
