Lack of bridge to lesser Math
Revisado: 05-27-24
I have a first year calculus understanding of math. The second half of the book had many subjects that were lost on me. I would have got more out of the book if the author could have explained things in more detail.
The reader sounded to me like Roscoe Lee Browne, and I imagined Roscoe was reading it to me. It was a good job by the reader, as the subject matter was difficult.
It used to be that when I went into Starbucks they had several left wing newspapers to choose from. They did other things that were left wing political as well. I stopped going. I don't want to get pelted with left wing politics when I buy a drink.
I especially don't want it when I read a math book. After reading it I looked up his X profile, sure I would find his pronouns listed. Then I found out he doesn't use X because of the current ownership. I am sure adding his politics added cred to his university colleagues, but to a reader interested in the history of math, it is a turn-off.

Broken Money explores the history of money through the lens of technology. Politics can affect things temporarily and locally, but technology is what drives things forward globally and permanently. The book's goal is for the listener to walk away with a deep understanding of money and monetary history, both in terms of theoretical foundations and in terms of practical implications.

Bad research on POS
Revisado: 02-19-24
First of all, the American English term for the country Turkey is Turkey, not Turkia. Turkia is unrecognizable.
I am a follower of Lyn Alden and bought this book as soon as I saw it. 95% of the book is outstanding. Later in the book she describes her journey to buying Bitcoin. She should have led with this. She portrayed herself as a religious Bitcoin maximmulist.
She was not accurate when she talked about Proof Of Stake (POS). She should have taken the top 10 POS coins and said which ones had the flaws. Instead she talked about POS, but really it was Etherium. They cannot be painted with a broad brush as she did.
At one point she mentioned favorably that POS coins can burn tokens. ARGH. She has not thought this through. The value of a Crypto is the PV of demand and usage. Burning is a tax on usage. A less sophisticated way of looking at value is Tokenomics. Lyn falls into this category, which shows she hasn't thought it through. Burning is a gimmick. It would be the same as the US Treasury giving a toaster yo all purchasers of bonds.
All POS are securities. There is not one that isn't? Again, she hasn't thought it through.
I could write a book explaining everything that is bad about the USA, and everything that is good about North Korea, and conclude that NK is the place to live. That is what she has done, and her negative remarks about altcoins was not honest.
These chapters severely hurt an otherwise outstanding book.

Clever story, not appropriate for younger audiences
Revisado: 01-01-24
This had the opportunity to be as good as Ender's game, but came up short. The story was very clever and well thought out. The language was unnecessarily inappropriate for a young teen.
Towards the end there is unrealistic victimization. Instead of the mother abandoning the daughter becauseof her homophobia, the author should have made it real by having the daughter run away for some micro aggression.

Historia
Jared Kushner was one of the most consequential presidential advisers in modern history. For the first time, he recounts what happened behind closed doors during the Trump presidency. Few White House advisors have had such an expansive portfolio or constant access to the president. From his office next to Trump, senior adviser Jared Kushner operated quietly behind the scenes, preferring to leave the turf wars and television sparring to others.

This book reminded me of some of the many substantial things Jared Kushner and the Trump Administration did.
I was particularly impressed by the reader. It was as if Kushner was actually talking. He did a super job.

Historia
When we seek an example of great leaders with unalloyed courage, the person who comes to mind is Winston Churchill: the iconic, visionary war leader immune from the consensus of the day, who stood firmly for his beliefs when everyone doubted him. But how did young Winston become Churchill? What gave him the strength to take on the superior force of Nazi Germany when bombs rained on London and so many others had caved? In this landmark biography of Winston Churchill based on extensive new material, the true genius of the man, statesman, and leader can finally be fully understood.

Not written for American Audience.
Revisado: 11-12-22
In so many ways I enjoyed this book. I had the great advantage of having lived in England for two years to understand things that are not generally known in the USA.
I have a college degree, 1/2 of a MBA, and have read hundreds of history books. I worked as a linguist for 6 years. Yet I am not educated enough for this book. Other readers may feel the same.
The author constantly uses French sayings, which render the paragraph and point useless. This may have worked on the book form, but as I drive down the road and hear these French sayings I am hopeless.
The reader did an interesting job of imitating Churchill throughout. I thought it worked great, but I heard from another that they did not like it.
Overall I am glad I read it, and I am looking for more.

Important and serious book
Revisado: 12-20-21
I am a Libertarian, and do not agree with all of the authors conclusions. Many of them I do. What makes this an important book is it details the problems very accurately. I can agree with him on this. I will give this book as a gift to family members in California this Xmas.

Totally one sided anti-trump
Revisado: 10-19-20
I like Tony Fauci, and respect him. I was hoping for a interview that went deep into his history and thinking on the pandemic. Instead, this could have been put out by the Biden Campaign, and is not believable. It is a hit job on President Trump
There are 100 stories the could be told. 20 good stories for Trump, 20 bad stories for Trump, 20 historic stories about Fauci, 20 stories about science and pandemics, and 20 stories about life, and they talk only about the 20 stories bad for Trump, and they tell them inaccurately. I am an informed news follower, and I could have done a much better job, and Fauci would have looked better.

Historia
From the moment Donald Trump was elected president - even before he was inaugurated - Democrats called for his impeachment. That call, starting on the margins of the party and the press, steadily grew until it became a deafening media and Democratic obsession. It culminated first in the Mueller report - which failed to find any evidence of criminal wrongdoing on the part of the president - and then in a failed impeachment. And yet, even now, the Democrats and their media allies insist that President Trump must be guilty of something.

Terribly read
Revisado: 09-19-20
I don’t have a problem with the reader, but there must have been an equipment malfunction that made the reader sound drunk. They should never have put out this low quality reading, and instead they should have fixed it or re-read it.
Otherwise, the book was great and I appreciate Byron York putting all this information together.

Created and compiled by Charles Krauthammer before his death, The Point of It All is an intimate collection of the influential columnist’s most important works. Spanning the personal, political, and philosophical - including never-before-published speeches and a major new essay about the effect of today’s populist movements on the future of global democracy - this is the most profound work yet by the legendary writer and thinker.

Biting wit
Revisado: 09-11-20
Beautiful book a various essays. I read Things That Mattered and loved the book. I thought this book would be the same, but with the 2nd best articles, the ones that didn’t make the cut for the first book.
That seems logically true, but I did not experience that at all in listening to this book. The essays were very thought provoking and clever.
There is a cleverness to Dr Krauthammer that is rare. He did it on Special Report, and he does it here.
I would also say this is only a slightly political book. It is really a life book for all persuasions.

It's true that Maria Konnikova had never actually played poker before and didn't even know the rules when she approached Erik Seidel, Poker Hall of Fame inductee and winner of tens of millions of dollars in earnings, and convinced him to be her mentor. But she knew her man: a famously thoughtful and broad-minded player, he was intrigued by her pitch that she wasn't interested in making money so much as learning about life.

Great read that compliments Theory Of Poker
Revisado: 08-04-20
First I want to compliment the Author on doing an excellent job reading the book. It was professionally done.
This book does not go deeply into poker theory, but instead explains much about poker outside of theory that is necessary to know. I am amazed that the author did so well so quickly. Very impressive.
Unlike most poker books this was a real page turner. It was very enjoyable to read.
