Historia
Elle Stowell is a young woman with an unconventional profession: burglary. But Elle is no petty thief - with just the right combination of smarts, looks, and skills, she can easily stroll through ritzy Bel Air neighborhoods and pick out the perfect home for plucking the most valuable items. This is how Elle has always gotten by - she is good at it, and she thrives on the thrill. But after stumbling upon a grisly triple homicide while stealing from the home of a wealthy art dealer, Elle discovers she is no longer the only one sneaking around. Somebody is searching for her.

I want to love all of Thomas Perry’s books but…
Revisado: 10-11-23
Thomas Perry spins a great tale and I love his strong and intelligent characters. Mostly, he hooks you early in his yarns and never lets you go. This book is an exception to that rule. While he hooks you early, he overcomplicates the plot and in the final few hours of the book uses pretzel logic to make sense of a preposterous resolution to the plot. Too bad because his main character, L, is a great protagonist!

I enjoyed this short novel and thought the performances were excellent. For a free audiobook, it exceeded my expectations.

Where to start with Brandon Sanderson
Revisado: 08-24-23
Sanderson is such a rich and prolific writer that his works intimidate you with the question, "Where does one begin"? I love YA fiction so this is a great place to start. It is mind floss for a summer beach read yet it is a deeply satisfying beginning to such a complex and prolific writer. Like Stephen King, Sanderson is a genius in his ability to weave a story and keep you in its web for the entirety of his novels. This is a rare feat for any writer especially a science fiction and fantasy writer.

Historia
Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

First Sharpe novel I've read
Revisado: 08-24-23
What a wonderful character for these historical novels. Richard Sharpe is ruthless, calculating, and utterly lovable as the rogue and hero of these novels. I have seen the British TV productions with Sean Bean but the novels are darker and more interesting. The narrator is equally good. Can't wait to listen to more.

Lachlan Kite is a member of BOX 88, an elite transatlantic black-ops outfit so covert that not even MI6 and the CIA are certain of its existence - but even the best spy can't anticipate every potential threat in a world where dangerous actors lurk around every corner. At the funeral of his childhood best friend, Lachlan falls into a trap that drops him into the hands of a potentially deadly interrogation, with his pregnant wife, also abducted, being held as collateral for the information he's sworn on his own life to protect.

Good start, meanders a bit however
Revisado: 08-18-23
Good story, great narrator but the story meanders a bit too much. A good edit or two would have made this a more complete story that keeps your attention better.

A Slog of an Audiobook
Revisado: 07-12-23
There is a reason why Tom Clancy stopped writing massive novels - they are a bore. This is a strikingly awkward and terribly executed work from a great author. Hopefully, he found a new editor after writing this bomb of a book. It is excruciatingly long, repetitive, and full of descriptive details that are unnecessary and crude and sometimes cruel. The entire section on the infection and death of the nun was crude, gross, and cruel. I found it offensive and unnecessary in its detail. I could go on but won’t, unlike Clancy’s interminable novel.

Historia
Reacher goes where he wants, when he wants. That morning he was heading west, walking under the merciless desert sun — until he comes upon a curious scene. A Jeep has crashed into the only tree for miles around. A woman is slumped over the wheel. Dead? No, nothing is what it seems. The woman is Michaela Fenton, an army veteran turned FBI agent trying to find her twin brother, who might be mixed up with some dangerous people. Most of them would rather die than betray their terrifying leader.

It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Matthew Riker keeps to himself, doesn't cause trouble, and never talks about his past. But after a chance encounter with a woman and a small child on the run, Riker will have to make a choice: use his hard-won skills to protect two innocent victims, or stay in the safety of his quiet life. What follows is an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride that will take Riker on a cross-country chase, through the seedy underbelly of a New York criminal empire, and into the darkest places of the human heart.

Uneven and one dimensional
Revisado: 05-10-22
There so many bad cliches in this story it is embarrassing. Once the story gets going it is okay but getting to that point is painful. The narrator is as bored as the characters! My nomination for a razzie!
