The Merry Band of Pirates stopped the enemy from stealing a Sentinel, and destroyed its Elder starship, so why weren’t the Pirates planning a victory party? The enemy was not what they thought it was. It was much, much worse.

Still trusting the Awesomeness!
Revisado: 09-27-24
As always brought to life by RC Bray in that way only he can, this was one of the funniest, and yet most serious, episodes yet in the saga. I'm absolutely besides myself with anticipation for the next book!!

Historia
In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Gripping sci-fi done right! Hoping to see it in the movies one day
Revisado: 08-29-24
Believable characters and stong storytelling. of course RC Bray brought it to life but this book is one of love to see become a movie one day soon. The landscapes and visuals would be amazing.

A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan. Disappointing
Revisado: 01-20-24
Other books from Scalzi had a good amount of sci-fi, but this one really was just pure "let's see how outrageous we can get". On the plus side Wheaton breathed life I ti the characters and that brought this up from one star.

Historia
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

Revisado: 01-09-24
I love this series. Time and again I figure it's reached it's pinnacle and of course some books are a bit better or worse than another, but the excellence of the early series doesn't stop... Add to that the laugh out loud moments of the witty author and the spot on perfect performance of RC Bray and all I can say is yet again I'm excited for the next book.

The problem with lying about having a super weapon is that the bad guys might believe they have nothing to lose by doing something stupid that both sides will regret. Or, they might just call your bluff. Either way, the Merry Band of Pirates need a plan to deal with the Fallout.

Historia
The Merry Band of Pirates offered the bad guys a ceasefire. We won’t mess with them, if they don’t mess with us. Easy, right? No. The aliens chose to do things the hard way. So, the Pirates are racing around the galaxy to clean up the threat to Earth. The infant UN Navy has their own mission with the Alien Legion: Get humanity some allies in the fight. And the Ethics & Compliance Office might have to do something...ethical. Unless they can find a way around it.

some fun moments
Revisado: 11-29-23
As always RC Bray brings the characters to life like hearing old buddies chatting about old war stories. The story in this book wasn't as gripping.. I hate to say I zoned out a few times and had to go back. The beercan even seems a bit more timid. don't get me wrong I want more of this series and already have the next book cued up, but I'm looking forward with hope that Alanson can pull a Bishop and bring it back up to the high level fun and action of the earlier books.

Historia
After the Renegade mission by the crew of the starship Flying Dutchman, the UN Expeditionary Force thought Earth was safe for hundreds of years, at least. After there was trouble on the home front and the president had to authorize a nuclear strike on an American city, UNEF decided they did need the Merry Band of Pirates again. So, the Flying Dutchman is sent out on a simple recon mission. But for the pirates, nothing is ever simple, and their mission will become Armageddon.

The battle-scarred star carrier Flying Dutchman is finally on her way back to Earth, after an exceptionally successful series of missions that have once again saved the world. The ship needs a serious refit, and her exhausted crew just wants a break from constant clandestine warfare against a vicious and superior enemy. Wishes come true, right? Not for the Merry Band of Pirates.

yes this series is just that good
Revisado: 10-27-23
if you're this far along I don't need to sell you on how great this story continues to be, and of course how great RC Bray is at bringing it to vivid life. This review is more for the person wondering whether to get the first books bc you're afraid the series might lose its momentum and stop being great.... it doesn't lose momentum and I have the next 3 cued up already. love this, and the laughs continue to be fresh and loud.

Historia
An accessible look at the mysteries that lurk at the edge of the known universe and beyond. The observable universe, the part we can see with telescopes, is incredibly vast. Yet recent theories suggest that there is far more to the universe than what our instruments record - in fact, it could be infinite. Colossal flows of galaxies, large empty regions called voids, and other unexplained phenomena offer clues that our own "bubble universe" could be part of a greater realm called the multiverse.

Had much to add
Revisado: 08-16-23
I have a lot of similar books and this one still had a lot to offer and kept me interested. The reading unfortunately was very mechanical, more like reading in the front of a class and definitely not a performance. Some mispronounced words and names jostled me a bit.
