Historia
The Winternight Trilogy introduced an unforgettable heroine, Vasilisa Petrovna, a girl determined to forge her own path in a world that would rather lock her away. Her gifts and her courage have drawn the attention of Morozko, the winter-king, but it is too soon to know if this connection will prove a blessing or a curse. Now, Moscow has been struck by disaster. Its people are searching for answers - and for someone to blame.

Historia
Winter lasts most of the year at the edge of the Russian wilderness, and in the long nights, Vasilisa and her siblings love to gather by the fire to listen to their nurse’s fairy tales. Above all, Vasya loves the story of Frost, the blue-eyed winter demon. Wise Russians fear him, for he claims unwary souls, and they honor the spirits that protect their homes from evil. Then Vasya’s widowed father brings home a new wife from Moscow. Fiercely devout, Vasya’s stepmother forbids her family from honoring their household spirits, but Vasya fears what this may bring.

basic psychology 101
Revisado: 12-17-23
If you have anxiety issues that you can't figure out and seem irrational, this book might be for you. it's very basic in its structure and information. however, the practices could be affective if the situation were similar with the person suffering. chapter 12 and 13 make up for the rest of the book though. so, it starts strong and ends well but getting there is a chore. also this dude reads so freaking slow I changed the speed to 1.25 like within the first 10 words. it was an ok book, had some decent points, but definitely not a deep thinker.

Historia
On the Caribbean island of Saint Domingue, an island consumed by the flames of revolution, a senseless attack leaves only one survivor - an infant girl. She falls into the hands of two French émigrés, Henri and Solange Fournier, who take the beautiful child they call Ruth to the bustling American city of Savannah. What follows is the sweeping tale of Ruth's life as shaped by her strong-willed mistress and other larger-than-life personalities she encounters in the South.

Excellent
Revisado: 04-14-23
I read The Black Pirate right before this, which happens to leave off right before Napoleon flattens Santa Domingo. This story of Ruth just by chance picks up where that book had left off! This was such an excellent story, the narration was very good, and the book leaves off where the next one will pick up. I took a chance, and I'm so glad I did with this book. what a beautiful insight into such an important character.

Historia
The windows between the many worlds have been sealed, and the momentous adventures of Lyra Silvertongue’s youth are long behind her - or so she thought. Lyra is now a 20-year-old undergraduate at St. Sophia’s College, and intrigue is swirling around her once more. Her daemon, Pantalaimon, is witness to a brutal murder, and the dying man entrusts them with secrets that carry echoes from their past. The more Lyra is drawn into these mysteries, the less she is sure of.

Revisado: 01-26-23
Not only is this by far Pullman's best work, but Michael Sheen is absolutely brilliant as a narrator. This book is fast moving, action packed, and makes you want to know what happens next. I was, however, unaware this is book 2 of 3, I thought it was the last. I look forward though to the next book, very much.

Historia
An exciting new tale set in the world of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials saga. Lyra's Oxford opens in the thrilling comfort and familiarity of Jordan College, where Lyra and her daemon Pantalaimon sit on the sun-drenched roof looking out over all of Oxford. But their peace is shattered when a strange bird (a witch's daemon, on its own) tumbles out of the sky. It is Ragi, daemon of Yelena Pazhets.

It was ok
Revisado: 01-13-23
A short story that, while told very well, is pretty open ended. It's more like 'a day in the life of lyra." A decent story that can stand alone, but too short and leaves too many questions.

Historia
On a cold winter's night, two art collectors are settled before a fire in the senior common room of a college in Oxford, discussing two new unusual pieces—a portrait of a striking young woman and a bronze sculpture of a fearsome monkey. How could they imagine that they are about to be caught in the cross-fire of a story that has traveled across time and worlds.

Excellent
Revisado: 01-13-23
A very short little story that gives a very tiny ghostly glimpse into the afterlife of a very crafty Dark Materials character. It was very good but I wish it had been longer and given more detail! Alone it's like one of those three sentence horror stories that leaves more questions than answers. I do recommend this story!

Revisado: 01-13-23
A small side story that gives a history of how Lee met Ioric. Full of adventure, well told, and wraps up well. In addition, it ties itself to Lyra at college. This story can stand on its own, but was excellent to hear after the Dark Materials trilogy.

Best of the three
Revisado: 01-12-23
This book is the saving grace of the trilogy. Instead of annoying random music between each chapter, the author (and narrator) reads a passage from some other great work. This story is quick and complete, but does jump around a bit so it takes a sec to catch up with where you are. The ending is complete and well rounded.

For this is a world where soul-eating Specters stalk the streets and witches share the skies with troops of angels. Each is searching—Lyra for the meaning of Dark Matter, Will for his missing father—but what they find instead is a deadly secret, a knife of untold power. And neither Lyra nor Will suspects how tightly their lives, their loves, their destinies are bound together...until they are split apart.

A wild ride
Revisado: 01-04-23
This story, while it follows a loose narrative, takes a lot of wild turns. At the end it is all explained but up until that point. several times, I thought to myself, "really?!? well, why not I guess?" and pressed on with the story. while the acting is good, the voices took some getting used to. I'm going to finish the series but it's rough. oh, worst part is there is unnecessarily overly dramatic terrible music. between each chapter, just...why?!? ugh.
