Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Not a gamer, but was drawn into the action.
Revisado: 02-28-18
Many of the video game references and virtual world action were way beyond my minimal understanding or interest in them. I'm 70 and never got much beyond Pac Man back in the day. Nevertheless, the story line and narration of Ready Player One kept me engaged and eager to get back to listening. I surprised myself by really enjoying the wild ride.
I suspect the movie will emphasize vivid monster/avatars & shoot-em-ups. Too bad, the book let my imagination fill in those images on a more manageable scale. Well worth the listen!

Great ending...

Narrator was terrific. A pleasure of listening.
Story took a while to get into, but well worth it when it all came together.
I've gained a greater appreciation for spiders!
Will pause in wonder next time I squish one.

Historia
On a chance visit to Plymouth Rock, Tony Horwitz makes an unsettling discovery. A history buff since early childhood, expensively educated at university - a history major, no less! - he's reached middle age with a third-grader's grasp of early America. In fact, he's mislaid more than a century of American history, the period separating Columbus' landing in 1492 from the arrival of English colonists at Jamestown in 160-something. Did nothing happen in between?

Enlightened history!
Revisado: 08-31-17
In elementary school I had been enchanted by the exploits of Coronado and Desoto. I had no idea they had been such brutal conquers. No wonder native Americans don't trust europeans.
I liked the contrasts between history and current circumstances as the author discovered our past by being there, now.
I followed along listening with the printed version and benefited from the maps and photos in the book. Spoiler alert: The author's reading varies from the printed text. Does Audible provide such images?

Historia
Fifteen-year-old Christopher Boone has Asperger's Syndrome, a condition similar to autism. He doesn't like to be touched or meet new people, he cannot make small talk, and he hates the colors brown and yellow. He is a math whiz with a very logical brain who loves solving puzzles that have definite answers.

Narrator's voice was perfect.
Revisado: 02-11-17
A refreshing alternative view of my everyday world - walking down the street, riding a train, using an ATM. An insight into a mind wired differently than mine. His passion for math and science nicely contrasted with his various phobias.
The narrator brought life to the book. The rather simple story line would not have been so engaging if not for Jeff Woodman' voice and intonations.

How many times can you survive near death experiences?
Revisado: 03-11-16
Hard to imagine living/surviving with constant threats from beasts, people, and the elements. Those were tough traders!
"Excruciating" is overused to describe his various forms of suffering - which are many and diverse.
After much build up, the ending was abrupt. I appreciated the historical context provided by author in final chapter.
Now to go see the movie...

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Second listening before seeing the movie
Revisado: 09-29-15
Listened before it was even a hint of a movie and loved it. The reader's voices were so engaging, Just listened again before seeing movie. Wonder how much the movie will go into the fascinating technical details of how he survived. Gotta see it on the big screen.
And now news of water on Mars!
