Too cheesy. Too new agey. Very poor, obnoxious narration. I couldn’t listen to more than about four minutes.

Historia
Reincarnation has been a popular belief in cultures throughout the world for many millennia. The possibility that we lived before and may be born again, whether as a human or in some other form of existence, continues to fascinate us and features heavily in popular novels and movies, and also as a subject of recent scholarly studies. Although Buddhism is one of the religious traditions best known for asserting rebirth, the history and scope of Buddhist approaches to the idea has not received comprehensive treatment—until now.

A panoramic view
Revisado: 08-25-24
The author does a good job of presenting beliefs, ancient and modern, from various Buddhist cultures and practitioners. While not able to go in depth into the many different ideas of rebirth, he does give good detail within his overview. I strongly recommended this book to anybody interested in the subject matter.

Historia
Life has a way of provoking us with traffic jams and computer malfunctions, with emotionally distant partners and crying children—and before we know it, we're upset. We feel terrible, and then we end up saying and doing things that only make matters worse. But it doesn't have to be that way, says Pema Chödrön. It is possible to relate constructively to the inevitable shocks, losses, and frustrations of life so that we can find true happiness. The key, Pema explains, is not biting the "hook" of our habitual responses.

Wonderful exploration of anger and patience. Thank you for the practical techniques and reframes for the typical ways that we repress and project our anger. The Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life is a great corrective to our common place way of dealing with difficult emotions. Thanks, Pema!

I love this book. Bob Thurman went into great depths of the dharma in such a short amount of time. The way he expanded the four noble truths into the deepest reaches of Buddhist philosophy and practice was amazing! Emaho!

Historia
Die Wise does not offer seven steps for coping with death. It does not suggest ways to make dying easier. It pours no honey to make the medicine go down. Instead, with lyrical prose, deep wisdom, and stories from his two decades of working with dying people and their families, Stephen Jenkinson places death at the center of the discussion and asks us to behold it in all its painful beauty. Die Wise teaches the skills of dying, skills that have to be learned in the course of living deeply and well.

Good stuff
Revisado: 01-05-23
This is a deep and challenging book. As a person who works in the grief and loss biz, I see the need for it. I see the need for a de-therapization and de-medicalization of how we experience and be with others in grief. This is a very different orientation towards life. One in which living deeply with loss and grief and love is seen as a hard work that can be done if we are willing to put in the effort.

Historia
Each day we deal with the challenges of ordinary life: a series of mundane experiences that could be summarized by the title of this book, Work, Sex, Money. We all hope that these aspects of our life will be a source of fulfillment and pleasure, and they often are. Yet they are also always sources of problems for which we seek practical advice and solutions.

Trungpa was a good teacher. Questionable behavior, but let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Still lots to learn from him.

Historia
The Buddhist saint Nāgārjuna, who lived in South India in approximately the second century CE, is undoubtedly the most important, influential, and widely studied Mahāyāna Buddhist philosopher. His greatest philosophical work, the Mūlamadhyamikakārikā - read and studied by philosophers in all major Buddhist schools of Tibet, China, Japan, and Korea - is one of the most influential works in the history of Indian philosophy. Now, in The Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, Jay L. Garfield provides a clear translation of Nāgārjuna's seminal work.

Good, heavy
Revisado: 12-06-22
This book and commentary are very interesting. The commentary is very helpful with the sometimes difficult to understand textual jargon for those of us who are not deeply steeped in Middleway philosophy. I found the points quite intuitive, despite the technical philosophical language and reasoning. I would definitely recommend it for anybody willing and wanting to go deeper into Buddhist thought.

Historia
This classic teaching by a Tibetan master continues to inspire both beginners and long-time practitioners of Buddhist meditation. Chgyam Trungpa Rinpoche shows that meditation extends beyond the formal practice of sitting to build the foundation for compassion, awareness, and creativity in all aspects of life. He explores the six activities associated with meditation in action - generosity, discipline, patience, energy, clarity, and wisdom - revealing that through simple, direct experience, one can attain real wisdom.

Historia
Western thought and culture have coalesced around a series of constructed ideas—that human beings stand separate from a nature that must be controlled; that the mind is somehow superior to the body; that all sexuality entails a seduction—that in some way underlie our exploitation of the earth, our distrust of emotion, and our loneliness and reluctance to love.
