Historia
Alex Green is a young girl in a world much like ours, except for its most seminal event: the Mass Dragoning of 1955, when hundreds of thousands of ordinary wives and mothers sprouted wings, scales, and talons; left a trail of fiery destruction in their path; and took to the skies. Was it their choice? What will become of those left behind? Why did Alex’s beloved aunt Marla transform but her mother did not? Alex doesn’t know. It’s taboo to speak of.

I would never have picked this book to read of my own accord. Chosen by a nephew and niece for our Family Book Club. Loved the story. Loved the characters. Loved the message. Good, easy read.

Touching
Revisado: 07-03-24
Sappy in parts, yet so sweet and delightful. Though a very dark subject story was not. The devise of the Letters read post death moved the story effectively back and forth through time. A feel
good read. Deep and unabashedly touching.

Historia
Lillie Silva knew life as an empty nester would be hard after her only child left for college, but when her husband abruptly dumps her for another woman just as her son leaves, her world comes crashing down. Besides the fact that this announcement is a complete surprise (to say the least), what shocks Lillie most is that she isn't...heartbroken. She's furious. Lillie has loved her life on Cape Cod, but as a mother, wife and nurse-midwife, she's used to caring for other people...not taking care of herself.

Great characterizations
Revisado: 06-13-24
Really got to know each character and still, after finishing the listen, I am thinking of the next chapter as though there were a next. In my opinion, that’s a good read/listen.😊

Historia
On Memorial Day in Jewel, Minnesota, the body of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn is found floating in the Alabaster River, dead from a shotgun blast. The investigation falls to Sheriff Brody Dern, a highly decorated war hero who still carries the physical and emotional scars from his military service. Even before Dern has the results of the autopsy, vicious rumors begin to circulate that the killer must be Noah Bluestone, a Native American WWII veteran who has recently returned to Jewel with a Japanese wife.

Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Monkey Pants Friendship beyond the need for words.
Revisado: 01-28-24
This book is mainly a story of many different and sometimes unlikely relationships, it is character rich. Keep track because all play a part in the whole tale. Touching and well performed. A tale examining a myriad of differing degrees of understanding of what constitutes a friend. Memorable.

Flying
Revisado: 11-20-23
Be prepared to fly from the US to Australia and then to Tasmania and back. The story unfolds in what seems, at times, to be agonizingly slow with so many dead ends. Many mysteries are layered one upon each other and do not come to the light of day until the last chapters. Stick with it though. It is a good read/listen.

Historia
Daisy McCrae's life is in tatters. She's lost her job, broken up with her boyfriend, and has been reduced to living in the attic above her family's store, the Union Street Bakery, while learning the business. Making things worse is the constant feeling of not being a "real" McCrae, since she was adopted as a child and has a less-than-perfect relationship with her two sisters. Then a long-standing elderly customer passes away, and for some reason she bequeaths to Daisy a journal dating back to the 1850s...

Very enjoyable
Revisado: 10-03-23
I rarely choke up when I read or listen to a book anymore. Maybe ii am just jaded after a life time of reading. Something about the telling and the story itself had me choking back tears at the climax of the story. I like that there were no sex scenes, I am so over steamy sex scenes and yet there was definitely romantic and deep love examined in many forms.
A really good listen.

Great Story But…
Revisado: 07-23-23
The performance was very well done. I enjoyed the tempo of the story unraveling. Though the outcome was expected, I was intrigued as to how it would be achieved. I wasn’t interested I
In the steamy sex scenes. It was the only time I wish I were reading a book and not listening. Several times I felt those scenes slowed down the pace and unfolding of the plot. I guess sex sells. I get that it was meant to hammer the nail that these two were very much in love and fit together like hand and gloves. Still, I really liked the story and the telling.

Easy listen
Revisado: 06-30-23
This was an easy listen. Also had nuggets of wisdom and spoke truth about tough subjects; drug addiction, hoarding, parental obligations, and tidbits for organizing and managing the need to acquire and possess things.
Worth the time to listen as I did housework and involved myself in some purging.
