Historia
Teachers often find it difficult to implement lessons that help students go beyond rote memorization and repetitive calculations. In fact, institutional norms and habits that permeate all classrooms can actually be enabling "non-thinking" student behavior. Sparked by observing teachers struggle to implement rich mathematics tasks to engage students in deep thinking, Peter Liljedahl has translated his 15 years of research into this practical guide on how to move toward a thinking classroom.

This is THE handbook for math educators
Revisado: 08-07-21
I have a background in engineering, but I've spent half of my career as a math teacher in public education. When I first went into teaching, I had the grand intention of writing a book called re-engineering the math classroom. And, while I did come up with a number of innovative ideas over the years, I was never really sure of how my ideas would work in other classrooms. In this book, the ideas put forward are perfectly in line with my idea for reengineering the math classroom. However, the author actually took the time to try these ideas in hundreds of classrooms to test to see how well they worked. Whether you are a new teacher or an old teacher like me, you need to read this book and you should join the community of teachers that are talking about this book on facebook.

Historia
Do your carefully planned lessons feel unsuccessful? "I've tried everything," you think. "Shouldn't math be a little more engaging?" Ilana Seidel Horn understands your frustration. Participating in math class feels socially risky to students. Staying silent often feels safer. In Motivated, Ilana shows why certain teaching strategies create classroom climates where students want to join in.

I really appreciated the lead to building thinking classrooms and that led me to vertical non-permanent surfaces. and I appreciated all of the references from Fawn Nguyen.
