I absolutely could not stop listening to the production of this book. It was very well-written and the story was captivating. It felt like I was listening to an old VH1 "Behind the Music" documentary from back in the day. The writing on this was so good that I almost felt compelled to research if this was an actual band that I had somehow never heard of. If I didn't know any better, I would have. The ebbs and flows of the bands music are the backdrop for a compelling and intricately woven look into what it means to be alive, to chase dreams, to love, to lose, to hurt, to heal, and all the while wondering if you are making the right decisions. It may be a book about a "band," but it is really a story I think everyone can find a piece of themselves in.

I can't recommend this book enough. The author and I don't agree on all of his points, however, he makes it clear at the beginning that there are things that will frustrate those that lean left and those that lean right. He is as close as to a centrist as we have in America these days. The very fact that we don't agree in everything only makes the points made in this book more beautiful and poignant. It is a treatise in how far our liberties have fallen not only as a result of the pandemic, but through, majorly, the 1900s onward. This is not a left or right issue. This is a We the People issue. We have a common ground of liberty or we don't. We want to continue to have frivolous arguments that only keep the people in government in power or we don't. We are closer together as a free people than we think. We need to keep in mind that our liberty is either the most important thing we have or it's not. Again, I highly encourage you, regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, to read this. Be made uncomfortable, disagree with the author on some points if you want, but that disagreement is the very core of our society as a free people.

There is nothing here. Now, I say that without finishing the book. I tried. Oh, how I tried to get through it. However, four hours into it I found myself asking, "Why am I listening to this?" When I realized that the question was louder in my head than the words were in my ears, I decided to quit. There is no "there" there. The story as far I got was nothing more than people dying from some odd disease/mutation and all of it set within a background of human depravity. I am all for noir depictions of human life, but there is nothing redeeming anywhere in this story. If you asked one thousand people what they hated the most about modern life and what their favorite conspiracies were, you would end up with the book. It is utter hopelessness wrapped in a dumpster fire. As far as the narrator goes, I get he may have been chosen for the cynicism in his voice to perfectly match that of the "story" but it is grating. All of the characters have the same voice, speech patterns, intonations, etc. This is the first audio book I have ever not finished and I'm not the least bit sad. I wish I had spent four hours getting through another title. I got this one for free, but I can't caution you enough to not buy this "Junk" unless you enjoy wishing your ears would bleed.

This production was great and informative. Then, it goes from hard science to speculative, self-loathing regarding "Climate Change" when, just minutes before, they had scientists stating that the climate changed without the dinosaurs driving SUVs. For me, it took what was a fairly solid foray into history and science and turned it into a progressive talking point unsupported by facts. That was disappointing to me. Overall though, I did enjoy it.

There is no doubt in my mind that what Steve has written here could easily be a true demonic manuscript about how we have been aided in our attempts to turn our backs on God and walk straight into hell ourselves. So often, politics is where our conversations end. However, as this book makes clear, politics may be the arena, but the true issues reside in matters of eternal importance. The church must wake up and stop talking about Jesus as is he were some squishy hipster. He is not! He is the Son of God, the Word made flesh. It's time that Christians storm the hills that the seminaries and head offices of the church reside on and overthrow their progressivism with truth. Thank you Steve for being willing to write this book, though I imagine it couldn't have been much fun.

First let me say that I had to commit a little bit of cognitive dissonance to rate the "story" part of this review a five. The story sucks. Our founding principles are being eroded away like the bolts of a San Francisco street light due to the urination of progressive policies. The fact of the matter is that Steve holds back no punches. The mirror he holds up in the face of every conservative is both refreshing and convicting. It is our continued silence through the years that has contributed to our own problems, and Steve makes that very clear. However, following the biblical principle of confronting your brother in his sin, Deace does this for our own good. We need to see that all of the navel-gazing and holding our noses as we vote for the magic R is not the solution. The solution is clearly defining our principles, standing up for them, come (literal) hell or high water (boarding), and not being afraid to articulate the truth in all arenas. The body count here is high. Steve slays every sacred cow. That's a good thing because we don't want their climate changing flatulence around anymore. God bless Steve and everyone else who is working much harder than most of us to correct the record and call us to action.

Steve does an excellent job of laying out the myths and "tactics" we as conservatives have accepted as we go about our day to day lives. He then replaces them with truth and actual, solid truths that mirror not only the Chrisitan worldview that has and will prevail despite what culture says, but also the foundations of the constitution. He does not hold the constitution up as some holy book, but instead recognizes that it socially captures and places into action the realities of God's creation and his plan for his children. The tactics Steve gives us in this work are powerful. The issue is implementation. It doesn't take long to realize that if we want to bring our values back to the top, we will be doing a lot of praying for the strength to stand and fight. God bless Steve and all of his work to preserve freedom through a correct lens, namely Christianity.

I was not surprised by the things discussed or the way in which they were presented. I am well aware of Nadia's public theology. That said, I did try to keep an open mind. However, it became very clear very quickly that she wasn't interested in a conversation regarding truth, she wanted to present her interpretation of truth as gospel. The question I had throughout the book was this, "Is it ok just to ignore or mock the things that God teaches us and tells us about ourselves just because they are inconvenient?" I agree, to an extent, that sex has become taboo in our churches despite being a gift from God in our creation. However, to say that gender dysphoria or homosexuality is not a result of a fallen world, but instead is all part of God making people mistakes and then shrugging his shoulders seems a bit too convenient. Be in the world not of it. Nadia blames conservative Christians for all of the ills surrounding sex. Mocking those with a bound conscience, whom your Denver statement supposedly protects, is not helpful. Deciding which parts of God's teachings we want to accept and ignore smacks of Marcionism. Given the current positions of the ELCA on all other matters though, it is no surprise to me that this book reads as a dedication to Baal instead of an expository of God's truth. I have zero doubt that there is grace enough from God to forgive and love those who refuse to walk in his ways. That said, there can be no forgiveness without repentance. Guard your itchy ears my friends.

It is a heavy topic to take the platitudes that our faith has been boiled down to and try to recontextualize them into something bigger, but it is well worth it to shake off the confines of what you thought the gospel said and realize the true freedom we so often overlook.
