Historia
Raw, intimate, and timely, Bolz-Weber’s latest book offers a full-blown overhaul of our harmful and antiquated ideas about sex, gender, and our bodies. This is a journey of holy resistance. Along the way, as antidotes to shame, heresy, and all-too-familiar injustice, Bolz-Weber shares stories, poetry, and scripture, cultivating resilient hope and audacious love rooted in good news that is “powerful enough, transgressive enough, and beautiful enough to heal not only the ones who have been hurt but also those who have done the hurting.”

Stunning description of what it means to actually be a follower of Christ despite the un-Christian behavior of churches.

Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Phenomenal
Revisado: 04-07-23
Fantastic narration and as usual, Kingsolver’s writing rang true and shined brilliantly. Stories such as this one build compassion in an often judgmental world.

Historia
Gut Reactions by chemist Simon Quellen Field shows us how our bodies react to food and the environment, and how our brain affects what and how much we eat, and in turn, is affected by what we eat. It shows why some diets work for some people but not for others, based on genetics, previous weight history, brain chemistry, environmental cues, and social pressures. It explores how dozens of hormones affect hunger and satiety and interact with the brain and the gut to regulate feeding behavior.

Historia
In Search Of Black History with Bonnie Greer brings you face-to-face with the people you never knew existed. People whose stories tell us a different tale about who we all are. From the earliest glimmerings of modern humanity, up to the present day, Bonnie Greer uncovers the lives of people of African descent that don't fit with the accepted history of Western Civilisation we've traditionally been taught. From saints, to philosophers, to warrior women and king's heralds - these people's lives have been lost, hidden and distorted down the centuries. We've lost the full richness and complexity of our shared histories - it's time to fill in the gaps.

Fantastic resource!
Revisado: 02-22-21
This book provides insights and information regarding the complex issue of dementia. There are many checklists and suggestions that I will surely be referring to as my loved one’s dementia progresses. The book also acknowledges the needs of the caregiver whose health affects the well-being of the patient. I consider this book a must read for anyone who has a loved one at any stage of dementia. I even ordered the book and print so I could easily refer to the excellent resources.

Historia
Lenny Duncan is the unlikeliest of pastors. Formerly incarcerated, he is now a black preacher in the whitest denomination in the United States: the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Shifting demographics and shrinking congregations make all the headlines, but Duncan sees something else at work - drawing a direct line between the church's lack of diversity and the church's lack of vitality. The problems the ELCA faces are theological, not sociological. But so are the answers.

All ELCA members should read this!
Revisado: 08-04-20
While this book exposes and explains our failings as a church body, it also gives examples of what the church and its members need to do to be true followers of Christ. My hope is that this book will lead to reforms in the ELCA that demonstrate in tangible ways Jesus’ command to love our neighbors as ourselves.
