Long boring passages where Nothing happens

Repetitive.Too drawn out. Could have been half this length. I liked the Hollywood backstories, best part of the book. So many of Dorothy’s insecurities. Found I often just drifted off because the book did not hold my interest in large areas.sort of depressing. Such a beautiful lady in constant torment.

Endless bad behavior on bj sides

I wanted to like this but it just dragged on to where I disliked both mom and daughter. Spoiled brats both. Couldn’t finish because it was just so negative. And I’m a true crime junkie!! The social background parts were more interesting or even a bit more detailed description of food,clothes, homes, lives at the time would make toiling thru this acid bath more enjoyable

Engaging and frightening

This story is so twisted you wonder how the author kept timeline straight. At one point I was sure it was just over the top fiction. Well acted and read. Chilling thoughts afterwards.

Interesting take on a true crime story

I liked how they created leads in a very cold case. Unfortunately they didn’t find the body to wrap it all up but a good listen nonetheless

3.5 hrs into this and am waiting….

This book is a challenge. I saw the awards so bought without listening to the clip. I love historical fiction about all these periods but do not see enough details to feed my interest here. Everything seems not enough. The characters aren’t fleshed out enough to engage , the setting details vague, history is the strongest part but still glancing, all of which could have supported the storyline that pretty much goes to the same nowhere x3. I’m 1/3 of the way in and am still waiting for the book to start, make sense, pull me in. I’m going to keep going and cross my fingers that the 5 star reviews make sense.

A few more hours in and I find this repetitive and boring. A waste of time

Unbearably awful story

I almost stopped listening. The story kept getting darker and more and more innocent children are being born into this horribly dis functional family. Please just STOP breeding!!! It made me realize my ill prepared mother could have been worse I guess. I dunno. Things turn around in the end but
So much poison in the water before then. Not a happy listen

This book is very tedious

I liked other books by this author but not this one. I didn’t like the main character and got tired of his bs and “sword “pursuit. Snore. I couldn’t see an interesting story in allegory or symbolism. I just wanted it to be over.

Interesting but tepid on

I have been to Huntington gardens and seen Arabella’s portrait. She was not afraid to be outside the norm so I bought this book. Hard to tell how much is made up vs factual. I thought this book was really not enough of either to be outstanding. It’s a shame a book about such a strong courageous woman is so luke warm.

Got old midway

Unique voice but so relentlessly over the top queenie it got exhausting. I was in nyc when all this was happening and knew some of the characters. A fun stroll down memory lane but had to bounce out many times before finishing
