Historia
A razor-sharp thinker offers a new understanding of our post-truth world and explains the American instinct to believe in make-believe, from the Pilgrims to P. T. Barnum to Disneyland to zealots of every stripe...to Donald Trump. In this sweeping, eloquent history of America, Kurt Andersen demonstrates that what's happening in our country today - this strange, post-factual, "fake news" moment we're all living through - is not something entirely new, but rather the ultimate expression of our national character and path.

Good info.. Author seems a bit angry at points
Revisado: 11-07-17
Very well referenced. Tone can become direct at times implying a soft bias or preference on certain issues but.. I will read it again.

In this exuberantly praised book - a collection of seven pieces on subjects ranging from television to tennis, from the Illinois State Fair to the films of David Lynch, from postmodern literary theory to the supposed fun of traveling aboard a Caribbean luxury cruiseliner - David Foster Wallace brings to nonfiction the same curiosity, hilarity, and exhilarating verbal facility that has delighted readers of his fiction.

A writer is a person who accounts for a texts features while an author is the entity who's intentions are taken to be responsible for a texts meaning. David is not clearly any of this.. but quickly becoming my favorite place to visit.

Today, feminism is no longer a dirty word, and women purporting to stand up for women's equality now include high-powered names like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Emma Watson. Hip underwear lines sell granny pants with "feminist" emblazoned on the back. In every bookstore, there are scores of seductive feminist how-to business guides telling women how to achieve "it all".

Historia
Nothing "goes viral". If you think a popular movie, song, or app came out of nowhere to become a word-of-mouth success in today's crowded media environment, you're missing the real story. Each blockbuster has a secret history - of power, influence, dark broadcasters, and passionate cults that turn some new products into cultural phenomena. In his groundbreaking investigation, Atlantic senior editor Derek Thompson uncovers the hidden psychology of why we like what we like.

Thompson nails it. Very well researched and the interludes are some of the best chapters. The entirety of Chapter five is thoughtful and very quote worthy.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Historia
A gargantuan, mind-altering comedy about the Pursuit of Happiness in America set in an addicts' halfway house and a tennis academy, and featuring the most endearingly screwed-up family to come along in recent fiction, Infinite Jest explores essential questions about what entertainment is and why it has come to so dominate our lives; about how our desire for entertainment affects our need to connect with other people; and about what the pleasures we choose say about who we are.

Not a good Audio book.. this book needs to be read
Revisado: 02-09-16
Such a wonderful book to read but terrible to hear. This book and all its fantastic characters need to b voiced by that voice in your head. I'm an incredible fan of the original work but this audio attempt makes all the characters feel bratty and childish. The original humor falls flat and this thorough read becomes a chore to listen to.. stay away from this and buy a physical copy.

Down trodden tone is consitant to a fault. <br />
Revisado: 02-05-16
I'm probably biased because of my association with Portlandia but I missed her wit. The stories are interesting but presented with such a "dead pan" that it makes it hard to care for the stories because it seems like she doesn't care about them. However, she read her own audio book and that's respectable as is.
