Historia
From simple practices such as walking, working, and getting lost to deep meditations on topics like prayer and pronouncing blessings, Taylor reveals concrete ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see. Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of devotion if we pay attention to what we are doing and take time to attend to the sights, smells, and sounds around us. Making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store becomes a moment of true human connection.

A fabulous and inspirational read
Revisado: 03-28-25
There were so many insights into prayer and blessings and leading a prayerful life. Barbara Brown Taylor brings real life and spirituality together in such a meaningful way! And I love having her read her own work. Her voice is a blessing in itself. She makes you feel like you’re sitting across the table from her and chatting.

Historia
In Dusk, Night, Dawn, Anne Lamott explores the tough questions that many of us grapple with. How can we recapture the confidence we once had as we stumble through the dark times that seem increasingly bleak? As bad news piles up - from climate crises to daily assaults on civility - how can we cope? Where, she asks, "do we start to get our world and joy and hope and our faith in life itself back...with our sore feet, hearing loss, stiff fingers, poor digestion, stunned minds, broken hearts?" We begin, Lamott says, by accepting our flaws and embracing our humanity.

Anne’s uncanny insights into human nature.

I’m always surprised and grateful forAnne!s ability to be vulnerable and expose the most insightful times in her life. There are so many aha moments in her writings and so many times I just want to stop and reflect about my own life based on what she writes. I’m forever grateful for every book!

Historia
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water is set in Kerala, on South India’s Malabar Coast, and follows three generations of a family that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning—and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century, a twelve-year-old girl from Kerala’s long-existing Christian community, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time.

Life carried on for the community of Port William, Kentucky, as some boys returned from the war while the lives of others were mourned. Another excellent Wendell Berry story
Revisado: 07-04-23
This is another story in the life of the Port William area told by Hannah Coulter. It fleshes out many of the characters we have met before, in the excellent storytelling fashion of this author. So much is learned about life in rural Kentucky in the 1900s. Hannah passes on her philosophy of life and how her life changed once she married Nathan Coulter. It is a beautiful story! Very well narrated.

Beautifully and poetically written
Revisado: 07-01-23
This could be a life-changing book for some. The reflections and storytelling here are epic. Wendell Berry is a master poet who loves nature and is highly respectful of the universe. It comes through loud and clear in this incredible novel centered around early America from about 1920 to 1970.
