Hercule Poirot's quiet supper in a London coffeehouse is interrupted when a young woman confides to him that she is about to be murdered. She is terrified - but begs Poirot not to find and punish her killer. Once she is dead, she insists, justice will have been done. Later that night, Poirot learns that three guests at a fashionable London Hotel have been murdered, and a cufflink has been placed in each one’s mouth. Complicated but interesting plot with great narration
Revisado: 04-01-25
The narration made me feel like I was listening to a BBC production of Poirot. The narrator did an amazing job with the voices. It was occasionally too quiet to hear while in the car. The plot was complex, almost convoluted, but some of the things that made no sense to me in the beginning were eventually explained satisfactorily.

I loved the incredible dual narration! This was a clean, closed door romance with swoony kisses and no foul language. The characters had realistic conversations about important issues, their fears and motivations were believeable, and the slow-burn enemies to friends to lovers was delicious.

Cora's a young girl with two dreams: to be a dragon jockey when she grows up and to own a pet dragon now. She constantly buys "egg packs" at the dragon emporium in hopes that one will hatch into a rare pet-sized dragon, but only gets short-lived mayflies. However, when an unexpected egg does develop into something new, Cora may be over her head.

I loved this story! The narrator captured the children's voices perfectly. The dragons were entertaining, and the whole idea of the nurse dragon was unique. It raises questions about human responsibility for nature. Cora is faced with some tough choices. Very relatable middle grade story. Kidnapping and on off-screen death occurs.

Heart-wrenching, poignant tales
Revisado: 04-14-24
Blind Beauty is a collection of three short noble-dark stories where three different heroines fight to overcome great evil with love and forgiveness. In Blind Beauty, every character has their own struggle with anger and bitterness, but each has the opportunity for a fresh start. Each person’s actions affect everyone else. Even the most villainous has reasons for why he does what he does and gains the reader’s sympathy.
Crossing to Afendia and Hart Spring show the evil of slavery and greed but that change can come when people stand up for what’s right. They both begin rather bleak, with so many characters feeling powerless to change their situation, but once the first person takes a stand, others follow. Afendia reminded me a little of Pilgrim’s Progress in parts, with a theme of sacrifice. Hart Spring is a creative take on the Snow White story without romance. I enjoyed how the villain got his comeuppance.
These stories are told from an omniscient POV, which is not for everyone, but it worked for this book. If you love the flavor of the original Grimm fairy tales and John Bunyan’s work, you will enjoy Blind Beauty.

Historia
Smugglers. A kidnapping. A fire-breathing fairy dragon? The Blue Order is falling apart at the seams. After months in Bath mentoring Dragon Keepers and Friends, Dragon Sage Elizabeth Darcy actually anticipates traveling to London for the Keeper’s Cotillion. Which says a great deal considering the she-dragons who make up the Cotillion board would very much like to show the Sage her proper place. The she-dragons, though, are no match for what Sir Fitzwilliam Darcy finds waiting for him in London.

Entirely satisfying!
Revisado: 03-10-24
This may be my favorite of the series so far. Kidnapping, adventure on the high seas, the order in disarray, dragons taking things into their own talons--never have the stakes been higher. Darcy and Elizabeth's romance still thrills, Mrs. Collins and Anne Wentworth shine. The bad guys are badder and the ton is snootier, but all receive their comeuppance. "Touch her and die" goes to a whole new level. Love it! If you enjoy Jane Austen variations or Dragons, you will love this series.
Some language and a threat of assault.

Historia
Henry Winkler, launched into prominence as “The Fonz” in the beloved Happy Days, has transcended the role that made him who he is. Brilliant, funny, and widely regarded as the nicest man in Hollywood (though he would be the first to tell you that it’s simply not the case, he’s really just grateful to be here), Henry shares in this achingly vulnerable memoir the disheartening truth of his childhood, the difficulties of a life with severe dyslexia, the pressures of a role that takes on a life of its own, and the path forward once your wildest dream seems behind you.

Energetic and Captivating!
Revisado: 02-09-24
I loved listening to Henry Winkler! He has so much energy and life, but his battles with self-esteem and dyslexia kept him humble, not to mention his parents' lack of support. His story kept me completely engrossed. From being the Fonz to directing, to writing books, it was fascinating. The plot was more of a thematic spiral than linear, with a conversational atmosphere. His journey is one anyone can appreciate.
CW: Some language, including occasional f-words, and one brief description of a sexual encounter that stops short of completely explicit.

Historia
One would think Anne Elliot, a baronet’s daughter, would find the marriage mart far easier to navigate than a more ordinary woman. One would be wrong. After refusing a poor, but otherwise perfect sailor, on the advice of her friend Lady Russell, Anne finds an unhappy choice before her: marry deathly dull Charles Musgrove or hope against hope that another suitable proposal might come her way before she becomes a spinster on the shelf.

The dragons in this series are so well done--from the descriptions to the personalities to the voices, with distinct traits for species as well as individuals. Being in the regency Era with familiar literary characters makes it extra fun. Love it!

Elizabeth Bennet thought she was prepared to do anything to make the Dragon Conclave accept her beloved young dragon, Pemberley, into the Blue Order, but she had not anticipated it would leave her banished from her ancestral home and betrothed to none other than Mr. Darcy. But before Elizabeth and Darcy wed, they must find a dangerous rogue dragon before it provokes a war amongst the dragons and brings the fragile peace between dragons and mankind to a catastrophic end.

Only Elizabeth Bennet's notes offer him any help. When his imperious Aunt Catherine takes matters into her own hands, things take a turn for the worse and Pemberley’s life hangs in the balance. He desperately needs more of Elizabeth’s help, but she ignores all of his requests. Elizabeth, though, has problems of her own.

Revisado: 08-21-23
This story picks up where the previous installment left off, with Collins and Pemberly creating various problems. It is a dual POV, and I appreciate the addition of Darcy's perspective in the series. The narrator does an excellent job with the various dragon voices. I enjoyed the change in Mary's role from the original. Many other changes were made, but they fit the new story well. Overall, a highly entertaining plot and memorable characters. I love Pemberly--so cute!

Historia
In 18th-century London, porcelain is the most seductive of commodities; fortunes are made and lost upon it. Kings do battle with knights and knaves for possession of the finest pieces and the secrets of their manufacture. For Genevieve Planché, an English-born descendant of Huguenot refugees, porcelain holds far less allure; she wants to be an artist, a painter of international repute, but nobody takes the idea of a female artist seriously in London. If only she could reach Venice.
