Revisado: 08-16-24
I was tricked by the title, I thought that it was about the psychology behind supernatural Sci-Fi. It turns out this is about the TV show Supernatural and its fandom. To be totally honest I am a BIG fan of Jonathan Maberry which was my main reason for selecting this book. I was a fan of the show but I am not on the level of many fans described. I did discover that it is about what I originally thought, kinda.
The authors skillfully used psychology to explain many of the events in the series as well as fans' reactions and connections. I found it interesting mainly when focusing on scenes and situations that I remembered as well as how the characters effected their fans. Looking back it was not totally my cup of tea, but I did enjoy it.
I would though highly recommend this book to anyone who was a fan of Supernatural.

Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

One of the best
Revisado: 05-13-23
I knew of Brandi Carlisle and some of her works but not much more. Music is in my heart and soul and Broken Horses nourished me. I cried, laughed, smiled a lot and just breathed easier. My first audio book was Becoming with Michelle Obama narrating and it was like sitting with her and listening to her tell me about her life, Broken Horses is at the high level.
Brandi's journey was an amazing and inspiring one, her easy voice embraces one with her person as if you were an old friend. I especially loved the way she told of meeting her industry/music idols (Elton John, Joni Mitchell, etc. Her story about Joni is great), not in a boisterous or braggadocios way, but in a "can you friggin believe this!?" way of astonishment and excitement. In producing, hosting and volunteering at music events over the past 30 some years I have had some of these same OMG moments, just pure surprise, excitement and joy so I can relate. Brandi's joy of music and life is infectious.
The chestnuts were her songs interspersed throughout the read relating to the same part. The icing on the cake was the many songs that she played solo and unplugged at the end, I felt like I was at a late night song circle around a campfire. This is a must for audio book listeners, Brandi's voice and music.
I hope that one day Amber Lee reaches out to her and they can rekindle their friendship. <3

Loved it. What an incredible woman and journey.
Revisado: 04-15-23
I have loved and followed Rhiannon Giddens since The Carolina Chocolate Drops, through Our Native Daughters and her solo career. Saw this pop up in Audible and jumped on it immediately. It is rather short (I would have loved more) but the 1 hour and 28 minutes is packed with her journey (much that was new to me) as well as many amazing influences. Throughout she includes some of hers and others music so this is one to listen to. I can't wait for what she shares next. 💗

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Another journey from Dennis E Taylor
Revisado: 04-02-23
I have been a fan of Dennis E. Taylor since first traveling through the Bobiverse. I would liken his mid to Izsak Asimov, H.G. Wells, Gene Roddenberry and more. The detail and believable scientific theories that he imparts lends a plausible IRL experience. His choice of Ray Porter as the narrator is spot on, Ray is one of the best narrators that I have encountered to date.
I could easily see any of Dennis' books becoming a TV or movie series on the level of Star Trek, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, etc.

But life in Rivendell isn’t getting any simpler, either.
