Historia
Trudi Montag is a Zwerg - a dwarf - short, undesirable, different, the voice of anyone who has ever tried to fit in. Eventually she learns that being different is a secret that all humans share, from her mother who flees into madness, to her friend Georg whose parents pretend he's a girl, to the Jews Trudi harbors in her cellar. Hegi's timeless story weaves together a profound tapestry of emotional power, humanity, and truth.

A beautifully written book
Revisado: 12-17-05
Unlike some reviewers, I found that the reader’s tone and accent added dimension to the book and I found her voice soothing, but I can see how it might annoy some people. I suggest listening to a sample to see how it affects you before buying the book. I first listened to this book a couple of years ago, and I started it again today. It’s the kind of book you’ll want to read again and again.

Historia
The outcast youth Ishmael, succumbing to wanderlust during a dreary New England autumn, signs up for passage aboard a whaling ship. The Pequod sails under the command of the one-legged Captain Ahab, who has set himself on a monomaniacal quest to capture the cunning white whale that robbed him of his leg: Moby-Dick. Capturing life on the sea with robust realism, Melville details the adventures of the colorful crew aboard the ship as Ahab pursues his crusade of revenge, heedless of all cost.

I wish I had purchased the abridged version
Revisado: 10-16-05
While the detailed catalogs and descriptions held my interest when I was reading the book, it put me to sleep in the audio version. Also, the reader has a small affectation in his speach that I thought I could get used to, but it grated against me from start to finish. Still, this audiobook is worth listening to... I just wish I had purchased the abridged version.

The silliest thing I've ever wasted my time on
Revisado: 05-21-05
I'm sure it's meant to be funny, but it comes off silly and ridiculous. This author gets great reviews so I actually bought another of her books, and found it just as silly. No more for me!

In this colorful and intimate narrative, Isaacson provides the full sweep of Franklin's amazing life, from his days as a runaway printer to his triumphs as a statesman, scientist, and Founding Father. He chronicles Franklin's tumultuous relationship with his illegitimate son and grandson, his practical marriage, and his flirtations with the ladies of Paris. He also shows how Franklin helped to create the American character and why he has a particular resonance in the twenty-first century.

A great listen, but nothing new here
Revisado: 05-21-05
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, and the narrator was a pleasure to listen to, but I was disappointed that there was nothing here that I hadn't read before. Even so, I'll probably listen to it again in hopes of finding a tantalizing tidbit or fresh perspective that I missed the first time through.
