May not continue series
Revisado: 03-13-25
I really don't like it when a writer writes herself into a corner and has to find a way out after leading the reader into following what is happening. It makes for an awkward and disappointing situation in the story.

Historia
In 1949, during her junior year abroad in Paris, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis bought several inexpensive paintings of Marie-Antoinette by a little-known 18th-century female artist. She also had a romantic relationship with Virginia vineyard owner Lucie Montgomery’s French grandfather - until recently, a well-kept secret. Seventy years later, Cricket Delacroix, Lucie’s neighbor and Jackie’s schoolfriend, is donating the now priceless paintings to a Washington, DC, museum.

A Political Opinion Essay
Revisado: 07-26-23
I have listened to every book in the series except the last one. Even though I already own the last one , I am finished. I do know that authors have a point of view, but this one almost beat you over the head with Ellen Crosby's opinions. I always taught my student's about author's purpose pie - Persuade, Inform, or Entertain. I read cozy mysteries to be entertained, not to be persuaded on the author's opinions.

Needs a different narrator
Revisado: 03-21-23
I did not finish listening to this book. While the narrator was good, I couldn't get past having a female narrator for a book in first person with a male main character. I also did not find the story interesting.

From furniture to books, from old clothes to broken toys, nothing escapes his keen eye for appraisal. I Love these books and narration
Revisado: 03-08-23
These stories are not like many cozy mysteries, but are very enjoyable. It takes a while to get into these stories, but once you get there, they are a great listen. I have already purchased tne next two. I hope Deborah Morgan writes more and uses the same narrator to read them. Great detail in the story and character development.

Enjoyed the book and the narrator
Revisado: 11-29-20
At first it was a little hard to get a handle on the character names, but then once I got that straight, it was a great listen. The story was good and kept you guessing through most of the story. It was what a cozy mystery should be. I plan to listen to book two starting today. This is the first time I have listened to anything by this author, but I see from her cozy mystery list that she has written other series using other names. Many of her series only have two titles. I hope she plans to release more in this series.

I will miss Denise Swanson!!!
Revisado: 10-20-20
I have read or listened to all of the Scrumble River books and the first book in the Return to Scrumble River series. The Return to Scrumble River series and this series seem to be the beginning of a new style for Denise Swanson. I listen to many cozy mystery authors and while this mystery is a cozy mystery, the language and sexuality are not. If I wanted this type of story (which I do listen to on occasion), I would probably read a Nora Roberts book . One reviewer said that if you found this language and sexuality offensive you were indeed a prude. Prude or not, I read and listen to stories with with this type of language and sexuality, but they are not cozy mysteries. Perhaps she is trying to introduce her books to a new audience, which is certainly her perogative, however, it seems to be causing her to lose some of her old audience as you can see from other reviews on this page.

Enjoyed the book and the narrator
Revisado: 09-07-20
This was an enjoyable book just like the others in the series. I have already purchased the next two. There was only one very small problem, It was easy to figure who the murderer could be, and I kept wondering why he was not on Jill's suspect list. I hope she keeps writing this series, but no more novellas.

When did Ms. Swanson start using foul language?
Revisado: 08-28-20
I didn't mind the narrator, I thought she did a good job, but the narrator wasn't the problem I had with this book. I also loved the story, but when did Denise Swanson cozy mysteries start using foul language and steamy scenes between Wally and Skye? There was nothing like this in the Scrumble River series and I hope it doesn't continue in this series since I purchased all the books available in this series because I enjoyed the Scrumble River series so much. After I finished this book, I decided to look at reviews of other cozy mystery series by Ms. Swanson. I read some reviews of the Chef-to-Go Mysteries, She started that series the same year this book was written. The reviewers were not happy about the foul language, and sexual content. Is this the new direction for Denise Swanson? I hope this is not the case. In the past when I chose a Denise Swnason cozy mystery, I found a clean, cozy, fun mystery, From other reviews I have read, she may lose many readers and listeners.

Change the Narrator!!!
Revisado: 03-15-20
This is an interesting story, but this will be the only one in this series that I listen to. I have checked and the same narrator does all of them. She is just too overly dramatic for me. It's a shame because I think it could be an enjoyable series.
I tried to finish at least one chapter, but I just can't. It is too late to return it, but I will not be finishing it.
