The history of the British Empire
Revisado: 07-08-24
As with the others Great courses this is a wonderfully orchestred hand held walk through of a complex period of world history. I cannot speak highly enough of the material or its presenter in being able to convey the overall story and narrative in a manner that keeps the attention sharp. Thank you.

So far the best of all the DUNE books
Revisado: 03-12-23
I am working my way through the prequels having also listened to the original Dune stories on here, and this was so far the best of them all…
Immersive, complex and paced it lays the ground the divide in the two central houses that would last for generations whilst completing the storyline of the thinking machine history and their thousand year rein…
Excellent reading throughout as one has come to expect from Scott Brick. I am already looking forward to the opportunity to listen to it all again, just not until after completing the series first…

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

An epic story
Revisado: 01-21-23
It’s been long time since I read the book so much so that a lot of it had been forgotten. This audiobook treatment although a little confusing in places ( due to the reuse of the voice talent with different characters) reaffirmed in my mind all I had thought grand about the story and it’s players.
Hugely engaging and enjoyable.

One book to gain them all...
Revisado: 02-02-22
Net Positive is likely the most important book you can read for the new economy.
Sharing the stories and reasons behind the building of one the most admired corporation in the world the authors demonstrate again and again that making the right choice for the planet and the company's future is both never easy, but ultimately the only way forward.
Being "less bad" is not an option.
Inspiring, approach building, direct and encouraging the book in my view is the single best business book I have read to date.
If you are helping to change the world you will likely gain as much as I have I feel...
Enjoy.

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

"I saw the whale ahead of us, coming with twice his ordinary speed, and with tenfold fury and vengeance in his aspect. The surf flew in all directions about him and his course toward us was marked by a white foam which he made with continual violent thrashing of his tail; his head was about half out of water and in that way he came upon and again struck the ship." An angry whale rams and destroys a whale ship in 1820.

A millennium into the future, two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the Galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. On the beautiful Outer World planet of Solaria, a handful of human colonists lead a hermit-like existence, their every need attended to by their faithful robot servants. Daneel Olivaw, to solve an incredible murder that has rocked Solaria to its foundations.

How a journey begins...
Revisado: 02-21-21
Greatly enjoyed this book, it helps set the stage for the future of the series that builds Foundation.
This story is much deeper in how it blends mankinds own shortcomings and failings as a mirror to the narrative of events within the story. But for a few mankind would be lost, so it is in this tense storyline in which Asimov lays out some of the early stepping stones that will lead the reader /listener over time ever deeper into space...

Historia
Golan Trevize, former councilman of the First Foundation, has chosen the future, and it is Gaia. A superorganism, Gaia is a holistic planet with a common consciousness so intensely united that every dewdrop, every pebble, every being, can speak for all - and feel for all. It is a realm in which privacy is not only undesirable, it is incomprehensible. But is it the right choice for the destiny of mankind? While Trevize feels it is, that is not enough. He must know.

An epic conclusion...
Revisado: 02-20-21
Well paced, twisting and ultimately very satisfying in its conclusion. A fitting closure on the Foundation series.
It is hard to discount Asimov's impact through his various works other than to say if we think of AI we think of the 3 laws. If we see Starship being developed with think of Spacers... And if we think of Gaia and the story that unfolds around it and it's plan for humanity we are reminded of our real need to protect mother earth for all our futures...

Historia
A millennium into the future two advancements have altered the course of human history: the colonization of the galaxy and the creation of the positronic brain. Isaac Asimov's Robot novels chronicle the unlikely partnership between a New York City detective and a humanoid robot who must learn to work together. Like most people left behind on an over-populated Earth, New York City police detective Elijah Baley had little love for either the arrogant Spacers or their robotic companions.

Gripping stufft
Revisado: 02-14-21
I am returning to the beginnings of the Foundation series following the books in order as recommended by the author.
It continues to be a hugely enjoyable journey with this book.
Sad though to also read that the actor reading the book as engagingly as he did passed away last year...
I am new to Asimov's works, and I am staggered by the richness and depth of each of his books thus far. I understand more now that this one written in the mid fifties shows a picture of world that is creeping every closer to us in terms of man's over consumption of the earth's resources and our race to consider other planets as our possible future, and the conflicts that such might bring.
I highly recommend this book, but as a part of the whole story line Asimov left us. Enjoy :)
