Historia
Robert Lee Scott was larger than life. A decorated Eagle Scout who barely graduated from high school, the young man from Macon, Georgia, with an oversize personality used dogged determination to achieve his childhood dream of becoming a famed fighter pilot. First capturing national attention during World War II, Scott, a West Point graduate, flew missions in China alongside the legendary "Flying Tigers", where his reckless courage and victories against the enemy made headlines.

This is a great book if you remember watching God Is My Co-Pilot on a black and white Tv. Unfortunately the narrator makes every Southern speaker sound like Jubilation T Cornpone. It bothered me greatly.

Historia
On August 7, 1942, two events of major military importance occurred on separate sides of the planet. In the South Pacific, the United States went on the offensive, landing the First Marine Division at Guadalcanal. In England, 12 B-17 bombers of the new Eighth Air Force’s 97th Bombardment Group bombed the Rouen–Sotteville railroad marshalling yards in France. While the mission was small, the aerial struggle that began that day would ultimately cost the United States more men killed and wounded by the end of the war in Europe than the Marines would lose in the Pacific War.

As great as this book is, it would have been 100% better if the charts and maps in the print edition. I don’t know why publishers short-change the listening public but it is awful. Some publishers do but most just ignore us.

Historia
In May 1940, Nazi Germany was master of continental Europe. The only European power still standing was Great Britain - and the all-conquering German armed forces stood poised to cross the Channel. Following the destruction of the RAF fighter forces, the sweeping of the Channel of mines, and the wearing down of the Royal Naval defenders, two German army groups were set to storm the beaches of southern England.

Not convinced
Revisado: 11-15-22
Lots of good information but author insists that German army was invincible and Brits were pathetic. He never convinced me that the Germans could land 9 division with a few ships and rubber boats. We don’t know because the Germans never tried it. It doesn’t matter how swell your army is if you can’t get across the English Channel. The author compares a German landing in England to a wide river crossing which I think is silly.

Historia
In just four weeks in the summer of 1941 the German Wehrmacht wrought unprecedented destruction on four Soviet armies, conquering central Ukraine and killing or capturing three quarters of a million men. This was the Battle of Kiev - one of the largest and most decisive battles of World War II and, for Hitler and Stalin, a battle of crucial importance. For the first time, David Stahel charts the battle's dramatic course and aftermath.

No maps!!
Revisado: 05-29-22
This is an outstanding study of the Eastern Front by a true master of the issues. However it is not complete with the maps and charts if the print volume. It is beyond comprehension why Audible does not include a PDF of maps etc. without which the story can be difficult to comprehend.

Historia
On July 10, 1943, the largest amphibious invasion ever mounted took place, larger even than the Normandy invasion 11 months later: 160,000 American, British, and Canadian troops came ashore or were parachuted onto Sicily, signaling the start of the campaign to defeat Nazi Germany on European soil. Operation HUSKY, as it was known, was enormously complex, involving dramatic battles on land, in the air, and at sea. Yet, despite its paramount importance to ultimate Allied victory, and its drama, very little has been written about the 38-day Battle for Sicily.

Historia
The Texas Rangers came to life in 1823, when Texas was still part of Mexico. Nearly 200 years later, the Rangers are still going - one of the most famous of all law enforcement agencies. In Cult of Glory, Doug J. Swanson has written a sweeping account of the Rangers that chronicles their epic, daring escapades while showing how the white and propertied power structures of Texas used them as enforcers, protectors, and officially sanctioned killers.

Revisado: 08-07-20
A comprehensive history of the Texas Rangers written by a great storyteller. No punches pulled no legend unchallenged. The Rangers are mostly legend and mostly a frequent historical embarrassment. But it’s a fact.

Historia
General Douglas MacArthur is one of the towering figures of World War II, and indeed of the 20th century, but his leadership of the second largest air force in the USAAF is often overlooked. When World War II ended, the three numbered air forces (the Fifth, Thirteenth, and Seventh) under his command possessed 4,004 combat aircraft, 433 reconnaissance aircraft, and 922 transports.

This book is extremely unenlightening. It is a dreary recital of dates combined with excerpts from George Kenney’s unreliable memoirs. Avoid this book.
