Historia
Eve's Story by Mark Twain: "Eve's Diary" is a comic short story by Mark Twain. It was first published in the 1905 Christmas issue of the magazine Harper's Bazaar, in book format as one contribution to a volume entitled "Their Husband's Wives" and then in June 1906 as a standalone book by Harper and Brothers[1] publishing house. Can't sleep? Let the dulcet voice of Erik Braa reading the classics take over for jumping sheep. These tales, narrated in a soothing, calm voice are designed to turn sleeplessness into somnolence. Tune in, zonk out.

I love the story - Eve from her perspective. I’m gonna have to listen to it during the day once though. I’d like to hear the whole thing without falling asleep!

Unconditional Love
Revisado: 02-15-25
This book is full of love. Parents love their children so much they send them away to avoid the ravages of war. A woman takes in two children she’s never met and loves them like her own. WWII is full of stories are people putting themselves in great danger to help those wrongly persecuted. This is another one of those stories.
I’ve never read anything about how Ireland was involved in the war. Being of Irish heritage, it was nice to hear how the Irish chipped in to help the Jews in that horrible war.
Nicely written, and the narrator’s lilting brogue was very pleasant to listen to.

Narration was primarily automated. Awful. Seems like the dialogue might have been spoken by an actual person.
Revisado: 09-16-24
I was anxious to read or listen to this book, but had a hard time finding a copy of it. I went to Barnes & Noble, and the customer service person told me that this book is self-published by the author. It is a print on demand book. I’m assuming this is why it was primarily automated narration. The story is riveting. It was hard to get past the narration though.

Historia
The master of medical suspense brings us another novel of controversy, biology, and human greed. Internist Matt Rutledge has spent the last five years trying to find links between the deaths of his wife and his father. He suspects the Belinda Coke and Coal Company has released toxic chemicals into the environment that have caused the "Belinda Syndrome," a miasma of symptoms that include violent and deadly paranoia in some, Ebola-like hemorrhaging in others. But he lacks proof.

I was interested in the story, but I couldn’t tolerate the narrator’s voices for all the different characters. Finally had to give up. Disappointed to have wasted a credit on this.

Kindness
Revisado: 08-27-24
This book is very similar to A Man Called Ove. An unhappy old lady is contemplating suicide because she has no one in her life. It’s gentle, funny, and very heartwarming. The narrator sounds quite like Dame Maggie Smith, who I absolutely love. I was drawn into the story by the end of the first chapter!

The Mistress of Auschwitz
Revisado: 04-29-24
The biggest disappointment to me was the very abrupt ending. The author spends so long detailing all the goings on in the camp centering around one particular prisoner. Characters are developed as well as relationships. But (and I’ll try not to spoil), Eleanor’s fate is finally looking up and bam! That’s all she wrote.

Patriotism, sadness and inspiration!
Revisado: 03-15-24
I loved this book tremendously. I had known of the poor treatment of our servicemen when they arrived home from the war. My husband had been in the USAF at the tail end of the war, before we met. He was a bomb loader on F-4’s, so didn’t see much combat. I never gave much thought to women in Vietnam, though I knew there had to be some. This book shines a bright light on the women, their service as nurses, and the ordeal they went through coming back home. I highly recommend this book for everyone: service women of every war especially, US citizens, etc. And if you are reading this and were involved in Vietnam Nam or any military service, to you I say “thank YOU for your service.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Brilliance in darkness
Revisado: 08-22-23
The story of Isabel and Vianne is heart wrenching and yet glorious. Kristen Hannah is a master storyteller using words to paint deep, expressive portraits and landscapes of events that take place during the Second World War. All the characters are portrayed with such depth and richness. Her words let you feel the wrinkles, and the heartache; the fear and the daring. She brilliantly shines light in the dust of occupied France. Don’t miss this book!

Historia
Iowa housewife Tracey Pittman Roberts seemed to have it all: natural beauty, three loving children, and a fairy-tale second marriage to a wealthy, handsome businessman. But beneath the happy façade was a woman who used lies, manipulation, sex, ugly allegations, blackmail - and even murder - to serve her own selfish ends. In 2001, police rushed to Tracey's home after a shooting left her vulnerable young neighbor dead. Tracey claimed it was an act of self-defense. Nine gunshot wounds - and a decades-long trail of extortion and fraud - said otherwise.
