Historia
An unexpected death on a lonely road outside of Utah’s Bears Ears National Park raises questions for Navajo Tribal Police officers Jim Chee and Bernadette Manuelito. Why would a seasoned outdoorsman and well-known paleontologist freeze to death within walking distance of his car? A second death brings more turmoil. Who is the unidentified man killed during a home invasion where nothing seems to have been taken? Why was he murdered? An illicit business, a fossilized jaw bone, hints of witchcraft, and a mysterious disappearance during a blizzard add to the peril.

Narrator does not fit the writing
Revisado: 05-30-23
Very monotone. Difficult to tell who is speaking. I have listened to Ms Hillerman’s earlier works on Audible on repeat. This one and the previous book have both been returned before I made it even halfway through the book.

Good story, but…
Revisado: 11-01-21
I enjoyed the story, but I truly didn’t understand why a book produced in 2017 needed to include the N word. It added nothing to the story and it didn’t move the plot forward. Just be forewarned if it’s something that bothers you.

Historia
Centuries ago, Spanish conquistadors searching for gold and new lands encountered a group of independent city-states in Mesoamerica. Sophisticated beyond the Spaniards' wildest imaginings, these people were the Aztecs, the Maya, and related cultures that shared common traditions of religion, government, the arts, engineering, and trade. In many ways more advanced than European nations, these societies equaled the world's greatest civilizations of their time.

Have listened several times
Revisado: 01-25-21
I have listened to professor Barnhart’s entire series several times. Each chapter takes me to another world and another time. The narration is well-done, not too fast or too slow, easily understood and accessible. Each chapter can be a stand-alone if desired, but much better if listened to all the way through.

The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons

Historia
Early studies of the human brain used a simple method: Wait for misfortune to strike - strokes, seizures, infectious diseases, horrendous accidents - and see how victims coped. In many cases their survival was miraculous, if puzzling. Observers were amazed by the transformations that took place when different parts of the brain were destroyed, altering victims' personalities. With the lucid, masterful explanations and razor-sharp wit his fans have come to expect, Kean explores the brain's secret passageways.

What made the experience of listening to The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons the most enjoyable?
There are very few books that merit a 5 star rating. There are even fewer narrations of books that deserve 5 star ratings. This book is that delicious juxtaposition of incredible narration and tight, well-paced writing.
What did you like best about this story?
I disliked that it ended so soon. I also wish the author had delved further into some of the cases to give the reader a deeper glimpse into the patients' regular lives
What about Henry Leyva’s performance did you like?
Excellent, well-paced narration. Neither breathy nor dramatic, Mr Leyva imparted just the right gravitas for the subject matter.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Other than a documentary, this book wouldn't translate into film.
Any additional comments?
This author and narrator have an excellent thing going. I hope they work together in future, and that the author write more on this topic. The author makes the subject matter accessible to regular minds like mine.

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A Signature Performance by Elijah Wood

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Would you consider the audio edition of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A Signature Performance by Elijah Wood to be better than the print version?
Elijah Wood brings this story to life. His voice is exactly what one imagines while reading the book. It is spot-on. Makes this classic truly enjoyable and fun. Wish I'd had this option back in High School. I am truly impressed at Elijah's range and ability to "perform" this book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: A Signature Performance by Elijah Wood?
The book has been reviewed a million times, so I have nothing new to add there. This review obviously focuses instead on Elijah Wood's performance. Sometimes I would get lost in just listening to Elijah's voice and performance that I would not be paying attention to the story. (I recommend Bronson Pinchot's reading of Twain's Chapters from my Autobiography. Similarly compelling!)
