Such an amazing backstory
Revisado: 03-26-25
This was such a great story. It’s hard to listen to a story when you already know for the most part how it ends because we know what he turns into. But they did a fabulous job with telling his story. Although I did give the performance a five I couldn’t bring myself to knocking it down to a four however, I felt like the reader was reading too slow. That would really be my only complaint with the whole novel. Other than the fact I would’ve loved to have had a happy ending for Hamish. But we knew going into this. There was not going to be a happy ending for him. But the story was fabulous. Another thing I really liked about this story as I felt like the other stories focused the law on the violence and the killing. I really enjoyed this novel. Didn’t focus on that. Well of course 51 children die in this novel, (unless I have forgotten someone) we didn’t have to hear the gory details of most of them. Or some of the earlier books portrait, almost all of the deaths. This one really revolved around Hamich’s thoughts and feelings. It makes me want to reread the rest of the series to see him from this new perspective. I loved this story.
I also loved seeing the start of Edie. She seems like such a horrible woman in the beginning of the first story. But you get to see her humble beginnings here and get a better understanding that she is a product of her upbringing.
I would really love to see another story from him’s perspective of all of the workings that went on between this raping and where it picks up with Katniss and how he worked behind the scenes.

From my understanding, all of the stories in this book were previously published on the Potter more website, but with my busy life, I never had time to go and read through all of them and missed most of these stories. This book really enhances all of the books in the series giving you more insight into characters back stories, and situations in the books. It was absolutely Fabulous and Miss Lynch does such a fantastic job. I just love her.

I really enjoyed the story and I love how it pivoted to two different main characters instead of staying with prudence and quint. Reader was very good and brought life to the story. This was just what I needed. I’ve been in a slump for finding a good book.

By the time I got into the story I was distracted by the misogyny and body shaming.
Revisado: 04-17-24
As a Mistry goes, This One was OK. I really saw the ending coming from halfway through the book. There wasn’t a lot of twist and turns, but it was fairly interesting. However, this will probably be the last book I read of this author. I noticed about halfway through That the women in this book were described more on their looks then their actual natures. it became very apparent when the main character goes into a diner and is waited on by someone who apparently had a chubby belly” that was sticking out the bottom of her work shirt. And I was wondering why the heck that was even necessary to mention. But then the author goes on to refer to her as something like miss chubby belly. And shortly after that, he meets with a reporter. And the only thing I took away from that interview was the fact that she was fat and on an Atkins diet. I have a strong distaste for men who value women based on their appearance, and that was enough to turn me off from this book. Additionally, I thought some of the sex scenes were, unnecessarily graphic as if I had slipped into a soft book. I’m not squeamish about sex scenes in a novel, especially if the scene is there to invoke some type of emotional response from the reader. But these scenes did not seem to have any need to be as detailed as they were.
Unfortunately, I also was not overly pleased with the performance. I felt like I was being read to and a really good book brings you inside of it with distinct character voices. It may not have been the performers fault as the book was not fabulous. But nonetheless, the narration failed to draw me in.

This is at absolutely a slam dunk. Although this novel was 32 hours long, I couldn’t stop listening to it. I was constantly on the edge of my seat and scared for Robin the entire time. I loved it so much as soon as I finished listening to it I had to go back and start listening to it again and I was still scared for her the whole time even though I knew how it ended. I love love love this and can’t wait for the next book!! I hope it is soon!!

Interesting Sequel
Revisado: 12-07-20
I wasn't sure how to rate this book. It got to 4 stars mostly cause of Wheaton. He is the only person who could have raised this up. It was ok and by the end of it I'd say a somewhat satisfying sequel to ready player one. However, what I like the most about Ready Player One, and really about any book, is character development and watching relationships develop between the different characters. I thought maybe we would get that with the low five. But we really didn't get to know much about new characters. And I don't feel like the existing characters grew and changed as significantly as they could've. The book spent a lot of time dealing with current political issues. As if the writer wants to make sure he is never canceled. The book definitely had more in depth details about games, movies and music from the 80s, So if you're really into that you'll maybe like this book. But I feel like I would've given it a better rating if there was a little bit less knowledge about the 80s in a little bit more character development. Also, I think the writer makes a mistake trying to push on his already dedicated fans issues of sexuality. Someday straight white man will look back at this time frame and wonder why they are all portrayed as idiots who can't tie their own shoe laces without a woman, minority or sexually "other" person. I wish we could just skip forward to the part where people are people and stop trying to over correct for wrongs done in the past. And I wish I could enjoy a good fictional book without having politics drug into it. You get enough of that from the news. But I'll say again Will Wheaton was fabulous.

I forgot how much I loved this book
Revisado: 12-04-20
I re-read this because the sequel was released and forgot to write a review last time I read it. I read so much I can't remember most books without referencing my own review. But this book was AMAZING. I couldn't put it down even the second time. And having Will Wheaton read this book was like putting the icing on an already perfect cake! Without giving Spoilers I loved in particular hearing him read the part where Wade says he voted for Will Wheaton. I swear I could hear the smile in Wheatons voice. I can not wait to read part 2 today!!!

Historia
Sometime between 1610 and 1611, William Shakespeare wrote The Tempest. The idea for the play came from the real-life shipwreck in 1609 of the Sea Venture, which was caught in a hurricane and grounded on the coast of Bermuda during a voyage to resupply England's troubled colony at Jamestown, in present-day Virginia. A lesser known passenger was Stephen Hopkins. During the 10 months the Sea Venture passengers were marooned on Bermuda, Hopkins was charged with trying to incite a mutiny and condemned to die, only to have his sentence commuted moments before it was to be carried out.

Such great insight
Revisado: 11-27-20
I am a direct descendent of Steven Hopkins, which I only just recently discovered. This book was an absolute amazing find to get insight into someone who was so significant in the founding of our country but which was not widely documented. The book does quite a bit of speculation based on researching several sources. I was disappointed in how much speculation is done but as he was not widely documented in his deeds speculation is the best we can hope for. I found this fascinating.

When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

Wow! Better than I thought.
Revisado: 08-23-20
I was prepared to hear the same twilight story, which doesn't add a whole lot more other than Edwards thoughts. But this book was almost like listening to a whole other story. There's so much you miss in Twilight. Because Midnight Sun is told from Edwards perspective, who can hear everyone else's thoughts, you really get an in-depth look into every Twilight character. It adds so much depth. I feel like I really didn't truly understand Edward before this book. Usually if that was to happen in the book you may feel that the author changed things, but in this case I really feel like I didn't really see Edward. In twilight you see Edward through Bella Swan's eyes and she loves him and he can do no wrong. And you fall in love with him because she loves him so much In twilight you see Edward through Bella Swan's eyes and she loves him and he can do no wrong. And you fall in love with him because she loves him so much. In Midnight Sun you get to see the true Edward, and fall in love with him even more because of his flaws and what he over comes. At least I did.
I re-listen to the Twilight series every couple years, because I really enjoy the story. It would be unfair, at this point, to say Midnight Sun is better than Twilight. Having already read twilight at least a dozen times, it's hard to judge Midnight Sun on its own merit. But, if I had to pick just one for my re-listen it would definitely be Midnight Sun.
Next time I listen to it I think I'm going to listen to both twilight and midnight sun together stopping one story and switching to the other every time they over lap. If audible is listening, I think you would do really well in sales to create a merged copy of these books.
Want additional note regarding the reader. I thought the reader did a fantastic job. And this book really highlighted some of the value in audiobooks over reading. Bella's lines in this book, and how they are delivered were different then how they were delivered in Twilight. For instance, a line in twilight May have sounded timid or self-conscious, and the same line in the midnight sun sounded irritated or angry. This threw me off at first until I realized it was portraying how Edward perceived the things that Bella said. This added immense depth that I would not have picked up on if I read the book.
