Historia
It is the last season of high school life for Nadia Turner, a rebellious, grief-stricken, 17-year-old beauty. Mourning her own mother's recent suicide, she takes up with the local pastor's son. Luke Sheppard is 21, a former football star whose injury has reduced him to waiting tables at a diner. They are young; it's not serious. But the pregnancy that results from this teen romance—and the subsequent cover-up—will have an impact that goes far beyond their youth.

An amazing story that takes you on a ride

I loved this story and this audio book! The author took me on an emotional roller coaster of a girl growing into a woman, the mistakes she makes, the relationships she develops, and the acceptance of the life and choices she has lived.

Historia
Jamie wants to be a halfskin. Her life has become dull and pointless. If she had more biomites, the synthetic stems cells that promise hope and healing, she could take control of her life. But Jamie's body is already 49.9% biomites. The rest is clay-her God-given organic cells. Anymore biomites and she becomes a halfskin. And halfskins are shutdown. But there is a way. Black market biomites, called nixes, can't be detected by the government.

Clay- Halfskin #2 -LOVED IT!!
Revisado: 02-21-15
Where does Clay rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I loved this book more than the first one in the series. Biomites have progressed and people are living at 99.9%. Are they still human? Who is really in control? The struggle between science & faith is more dominate in this episode in the series. Are we playing God with biomites? Or with the shutdown of half skins? This examination of morals, humanity, perspective, & reality forces the reader to examine what they believe & where they draw the line.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Clay?
The twist, turns, and loopty-loops that Nix, Cali, Paul, & Jamie go through are astounding. I hate to give spoilers because that element of surprise is what I truly enjoy about a wonderfully crafted story. So I’ll say this "Expect the unexpected!"
Have you listened to any of David Dietz’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
The production of this audiobook was so much better than the first one in the series. The issues that were present in the sound mixing & production are non-existent. I was able to truly get lost in the story and for me that is a sign of a great audiobook.

Historia
Biomites are artificial stem cells that can replace any cell in your body. No more kidney failure, severed spines, blood disease or cancer. Pharmaceuticals become obsolete. With each dose of biomites, we become stronger, we become smarter, prettier... and better. At what point are we no longer human? Nix Richards nearly died in a car accident when he was young. Biomites saved his life. Ten years later, he's not so lucky. The Halfskin Laws decree a human composed of 50% biomites is no longer human.

Halfskin- I nice treasure
Revisado: 02-21-15
What did you like best about this story?
I received an audiobook credit to review this book and wow what a treasure this was. Tony Bertauski has created a new fan in me. The story pulled me in, to my surprise. As someone who proclaims “I’m not a fan of Sci-fi,” I enjoyed this book. The premise of biomites intrigued me. Artificial cells that heal the human body, cells that boost intelligence and correct defects. How far will the human condition go to find their definition of perfection? I truly enjoyed it and Tony took the story in directions I didn’t expect.
The struggle between science and faith added another layer that kept me involved in Bertauski’s world.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narration & production of this audiobook was nice but there were some issue with the editing. As footage was mixed there were noticeable jumps in volume. I’d give the production 3 stars because even though it was okay, the gaps were noticeable enough to distract from the story.
