Historia
The powerful narcotic syncophine, commonly known as Flare, comes from only one source: the oil of the gargantuan whale-like beasts that swim the dust sea of Nullaqua. It was John Newhouse’s addiction to the substance that made him a dealer and forced him to move to this airless, inhospitable planet. But when the all-powerful galactic Confederacy declares Flare illegal, the needs of Newhouse and his clientele leave the desperate off-worlder no choice but to sign on as an able seaman aboard a dustwhaler and hunt the giant creatures himself.

Only thing in common w/ Moby Dick is the blubber.

Lame, not lucid. The fiction is that there is any science involved, the irony is the author writes like one of the ignorant indigents he writes about. This is Dr. Seuss with bigger words, no rhyme, and clearly a lack of sobriety, just like the main protagonist. I would call the S&M relationship with the bat-girl gratuitous, but I can't think of anything that was meaningful. No plot, nothing sequitur, except it started, and ended, thank God.

Historia
In her extraordinary work with dolphins, Patricia St. John has broken new ground in opening little-known worlds, all in pursuit of what she fiercely believes in: learning the languages of those who have been unreachable. Using what she has discovered from her years of work with dolphins, St. John is able to break through to autistic children. Her story is a remarkable one.

very good, it's about non-verbal communication
Revisado: 12-30-08
This book is about non-verbal communication, the world of dolphins & autistic kids, and being a passive, empathetic, open-minded "listener" is the key to understanding them. I think the other reviews are unfair and contained to their own left brain limits looking for some techie translator; That just doesn't work with Buddha, love, sex, dance, etc.

Historia
Richard K. Morgan has received widespread praise for his astounding 25th-century novels featuring Takeshi Kovacs, and has established a growing legion of fans. Mixing classic noir sensibilities with a searing futuristic vision of an age when death is nearly meaningless, Morgan returns to his saga of betrayal, mystery, and revenge, as Takeshi Kovacs, in one fatal moment, joins forces with a mysterious woman who may have the power to shatter Harlan's World forever.

Not so good narration on this volume
Revisado: 04-21-06
Morgan's books are fantastic, the narrator on the Altered Carbon & Broken Angels (Todd) is great match to the books, gritty first person. The narrator on this book just doen't make it, book is great, this narrator is not.
