Historia
In this mosaic horror/crime novel, ghosts and old gods guide the hands of those caught up in a violent struggle to save the soul of the American Southwest. A man tasked with shuttling children over the border believes the Virgin Mary is guiding him toward final justice. A woman offers colonizer blood to the Mother of Chaos. A boy joins corpse destroyers to seek vengeance for the death of his father. These stories intertwine with those of a vengeful spirit and a hungry creature to paint a timely, compelling pulpy portrait of revenge, family, and hope.

A fever dream
Revisado: 07-07-23
The complexity of these stories is so intricate, the final shape is elusive...it keeps changing with each reexamination. This book could perhaps be classified as horror, but I think dark and beautiful poetry is more apt. Lovely, just lovely.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 06-03-23
The second installment of the series is even better than the first. The numerous plot twists and emergence of the series' backstory makes this book complex. LeMay carries it off with a finesse that will have you at times laughing out loud, looking over your shoulder, and continously turning pages with fervor.

A wild and exhilarating adventure!
Revisado: 05-28-23
Cowboys, car chases, secret societies, burning effigies and ancient occult knowledge, all peppered with genuine old west and new mexico history. A fun read with great characters and surprising plot twists. This book is an awesome reminder that magic is always seething just beneath the veneer of the mundane. Highly recommend!

Historia
Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort—a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other "Bunny", and seem to move and speak as one. But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled "Smut Salon"....

Beautiful
Revisado: 01-20-23
This story was like reading a diary, maybe my own, maybe someone else's. It was gorgeous and intimate, funny and exciting, fragile and violent. Surprises abound here, boundaries are crossed, and there is deep, heart-wrenching love. This book will stay close to my heart.

An important book
Revisado: 12-11-22
I struggle to capture exactly what what Riot Grrrl meant to me. This book is a wonderful testament to moments in time which couldn't last forever and weren't perfect, but which meant so much to so many. Excellently researched and written. I highly recommend. Buy it for yourself, give it to all of your girlfriends. 💕

Unexpected and beautiful
Revisado: 10-22-22
This story has characters of startling complexity and depth. Their inner journey is so engaging that it might be easy to miss the equally complex world through which they move, although this is a character in its own right. The narration was lovely and nuanced. Highly recommend!

I believe that this book is necessary reading for anyone, regardless of other interests and affiliations. If we are to heal our planet and ourselves, we need to listen to voices such as these. The outpouring of love mixed with critical analysis in this book has invigorated in me a deep desire for a different way of life. I am grateful to Ms. Wall Kimmer for this gift.

Historia
Piranesi lives in the House. Perhaps he always has. In his notebooks, day after day, he makes a clear and careful record of its wonders: the labyrinth of halls, the thousands upon thousands of statues, the tides that thunder up staircases, the clouds that move in slow procession through the upper halls. On Tuesdays and Fridays Piranesi sees his friend, the Other. At other times he brings tributes of food to the Dead. But mostly, he is alone.

A cherished tale
Revisado: 07-05-22
I was immediately transported into a world of intrigue and dazzling complexity. I fell in love with the protagonist and feel changed by the beauty of this story. The narration was excellent and my 6-year-old daughter even loved it (while listening to it on a road trip). When I suggested that I reread it to her as a bedtime story, she declined, saying that, "the voice of the man reading really added to the story" :). Needless to say, this book has made it into the cherished stories of our household, and we will be revisiting it frequently for years to come.
