Historia
It was whispered all through London Society that Ian Mackenzie was mad, that he’d spent his youth in an asylum, and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. For the reputation of any woman caught in his presence was instantly ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord, whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

It’s…ok
Revisado: 12-30-24
The narrator is excellent, but the story has way too much focus on a murder for my taste. Full disclosure here: I hate anything to do with murder themes, especially in the romance novels. But I was willing to try this one because of its uniqueness - and a unique story it is. The family and the other brothers are intriguing, so I’m willing to keep on reading the series - partly also because of the narrator. I’m super picky with those and always happy when find one that I really like.

Historia
Enchanted by a powerful spell, Highland laird Drustan MacKeltar slumbered for nearly five centuries hidden deep in a cave, until an unlikely savior awakened him. The enticing lass who dressed and spoke like no woman he'd ever known was from his distant future, where crumbled ruins were all that remained of his vanished world.

An all time favorite
Revisado: 07-28-22
This is probably at least the 10th time that I’ve listened to it. The Highlander series is one of those series that I listen to every 2-3 years (and sometimes in between even). It’s like a cup of warm and cozy tea. The outside world and the problems disappear - there is only these stories that transport me to another time and world. No matter what. I can’t thank KMM enough for writing these. And Phil’s narration is superb.

Historia
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Any additional comments?
I seem to not be drinking the same kool-aid as the rest of the world...I found the reviews and the story summary intriguing, the audio sample showed promise too, but boy oh boy...I'm still not exactly sure what went wrong but about 10 minutes I started clinching my teeth and about an hour in I just had to turn it off. And ask Audible to please give me my credit back.
The writing style is absolutely terrible - "Tania said", "Dasha said", "XYZ said" - there was an entire conversation like this where basically everyone in the room said something and the line was preceded by "[Insert Russian Name] said". There were long passages of conversation going nowhere and in dire need of some red ink by a good editor.
The book seems to have a split personality - it wants to be a novel yet it reads like a screenplay.
To be fair, James did a good job narrating this weird "play".

Historia
At the end of her best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government....

Great reading!
Revisado: 10-06-15
This book initially caught my ear because I found Elizabeth's voice in the audio sample really soothing and wanted to hear more. The book is about the struggles of a modern woman's ideas of matrimony, and philosophical questions of what does a marriage and a good husband make. Yes, it's a very personal book, but since I recently got married myself, it spoke to me on a lot of levels. I've gone through the same musings and thoughts myself and given that the entire wedding industry is built around how magical and happy everything is supposed to be, it was good to hear that I'm not alone in being skeptical and afraid about entering marriage (despite my husband being anything a girl could ever wish for).

Historia
Full of things we may know but have not articulated to ourselves, Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart is a gentle and generous alternative to the trial-and-error learning that makes wisdom such an expensive commodity. For everyone who feels a sense of urgency that the clock ticks and still we aren't the person we'd like to be, it offers solace, guidance, and hope.

Simple and straightforward
Revisado: 08-15-10
This book is a collection of 30 essays on life which I found to be simple yet profound.
For example, one chapter (I think it was in the beginning of the book) discuses how people be can themselves happy with 3 things: "something (meaningful) to do, someone to love, and something to look forward to." Although simplified, I would have to agree that in most cases this would be true (provided that health and basic necessities of life are taken care of).
This is definitely a keeper and I will can see myself re-reading it for many years.

Ummm, was I 'reading' the same book?
Revisado: 07-03-10
Story-
I heard so many good things about this book and with a very high rating on Amazon, I decided to try it. I was expecting it to be similar to the Katie Macalister series(without the humor). Considering that found it on recommendation in the romance genre, I expected a steamy book with a murder mystery (which I really don't care about, but if it's in the background I don't really mind).
What I got was a story which made my stomach turn more times than I can count.
Maybe I'm sensitive, but I really don't want to read about gory details of the murders. After the very graphic description of the murder scene where one girl's intestines ended up in her mouth, I stopped listening. Not to mention the disturbing combo of sex and violence- the heroine still craves sex with certain people even though she constantly keeps repeating that she might be killed by them.
And even before these two things became an issue, I lost the interest in the characters' 'romance.' No real emotional connection, just plain 'oh-my-I-want-to-jump-your-bones-because-you're-so-fine.' At the end, this is a bizarre mix of paranormal, romance and murder genre.
To be fair, it started out great with lots of potential, but it all just went downhill at about half of the book. If you like VERY DARK books with kinky violence-sex combination this might be your cup of tea, but I'll avoid this author like the plague from now on.
Narration-
The narration was great and I suspect it's probably the only reason why I listened to it for as long as I have.

Horrible reading
Revisado: 06-06-10
It's really hard to get into the book when the narrator is not doing a good job. To be fair though, it looks like this was his first audiobook. He has a long way to go, but I think that he can end up as next Phil Gigante since he does have a really nice voice.
Things that bothered me:
- conversation needed to be more 'conversational' and not just plain reading
- no real distinction between female/male voices. Although the voice for an old duke was well done.
- randomly pausing in the middle of sentences which annoyed me to no end
As for the plot- surprisingly deep since this is actually an erotic novel and not romance. The ending had an interesting twist. If you're thinking of reading this, I'd suggest just buy a book and read it yourself.

Love it
Revisado: 01-10-10
I absolutely love this recording and listen to it almost every night before falling asleep. I'm usually asleep before the end of the first mediation.
I've purchased several audiobooks from the same company and although there's nothing wrong with the others, I would place them in the "ok" category. However, this is subjective since I find meadows (found in "Self Discovery") more relaxing than seas (in the majority of other books)
They are all based on the same principle- the narrator takes you places and the sounds in background really help envisioning the place.
The best way to get the most out of these is to get them in an "enhanced" format and then you'll really get the feel of being there where the narrator takes you.
