Historia
Our bones are the silent witnesses to the lives we lead. Our stories are marbled into their marrow. Drawing upon her years of research and a wealth of remarkable experience, the world-renowned forensic anthropologist Dame Sue Black takes us on a journey of revelation. From skull to feet, via the face, spine, chest, arms, hands, pelvis and legs, she shows that each part of us has a tale to tell. What we eat, where we go, everything we do leaves a trace, a message that waits patiently for months, years, sometimes centuries, until a forensic anthropologist is called upon to decipher it.

Revisado: 03-15-25
4.5 ⭐
A lovely summary of a bunch of interesting cases in which the bones were the key to uncover the mystery. Sue Black is a master in writing easy to follow, interesting stories with a splash of wittiness. This is the second book I read by her, and I am sure I'll keep on reaching for anything she writes. Also, the audiobook is read out by her, which makes it all the more fun and real. The perfect book for when you need a break from all those heavy stories! Bravo 👏🏻

Straight to my favourites
Revisado: 09-23-24
Without a doubt, the BEST book I've read in a long time. I can't yet grasp how Hanya Yanagihara is able to touch upon so many different topics and aspects of life in such a seamless way and deep level. I laughed, I cried, I felt very uncomfortable, I understood. Not once I felt bored, not once I wanted to skip a page. I'll be talking about this book for quite a long time, I foresee. Simple idea, one of the most intricate and complex, yet flawless executions. Outstanding writing. Can't recommend it enough.

Historia
Dame Sue Black is an internationally renowned forensic anthropologist and human anatomist. She has lived her life eye to eye with the Grim Reaper, and she writes vividly about it in this book, which is part primer on the basics of identifying human remains, part frank memoir of a woman whose first paying job as a schoolgirl was to apprentice in a butcher shop, and part no-nonsense but deeply humane introduction to the reality of death in our lives. It is a treat for CSI junkies, murder mystery and thriller fans, and anyone seeking a clear-eyed guide to a subject that touches us all.

I learnt a lot!
Revisado: 04-26-22
I loved this book. It is funny and clever, and wonderfully written. Being myself a doctor I have a background on basic biology and anatomy, but that was not at all necessary to understand any part of the book. I love how it dived into the matter of dying and how people are entitled to have a preference about the management of their death. It was wonderful to read about the author's view, and all her interesting and often very difficult adventures around the world. It was beautiful to learn about the life of such an extraordinary woman, and quite an unknown profession.
It was wonderfully narrated, although I did miss the author telling her own story, or at least someone with an accent that would resemble hers. She did a very good job, nonetheless!
Really recommend this book!

Loved it!

I enjoyed these short stories very much. I loved how each of them has something unique to them - whether it is how YOU make love to a physicist (my favourite without a doubt - so very special that it is told in the second person), or that it is written in epistolary format, or that you never get to know the name of the main character because to her mother she was always only "Daughter". I loved the writing, the setting for all the stories, and the fact that they are all so different from each other while still having church ladies in common. Marvellous narration as well. So happy that I picked it up.

Historia
Daisy is a girl coming of age in LA in the late '60s, sneaking into clubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars, and dreaming of singing at the Whisky a Go Go. The sex and drugs are thrilling, but it’s the rock and roll she loves most. By the time she’s 20, her voice is getting noticed, and she has the kind of heedless beauty that makes people do crazy things. Also getting noticed is The Six, a band led by the brooding Billy Dunne.

Absolutely marvellous narration!
Revisado: 05-09-21
The story is fantastic, and it's probably the best audiobook I've ever listened to. The combination makes for an outstanding experience that makes you want to finish the book in one sitting. Taylor Jenkins Reads' audiobooks make you believe what you're listening to is real. I put down the book for a moment and feel like I would Google her characters and I would find thousands of pages of these fenomenal people, of their music, of their stories. I just wish someone would produce the songs she's written about in this book! 100% recommended.

The best audiobook I've ever listened to
Revisado: 06-17-20
Outstanding story, outstanding writing, outstanding narration. If this book ends up being the best book I read this year, I'll be more than happy. It is undoubtedly the best narration of a book I've ever listened to. For the story and the insight it gives into black slavery and white supremacy in the US and all over in the past century it is a must read. And for the amazing narration of this particular audiobook, it is a must listen. Overall, one of the best reading experiences of my life. Absolutely stunning.

Historia
Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of eponymous Jane Eyre, her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

A lovely classic!
Revisado: 05-08-20
So glad I decided to pick it up. I loved the writing, and I loved how the characters were drawn. I thought it fascinating to know about a girl from her very early days, and how everything that happened in her life -not and easy one!- helped her being shaped into the woman she finally became. I thought it was a genius book, especially as it was written in the past century. Strong female lead, working towards he defined and strong beliefs, not caring what society thinks of her or her actions. It was heartbreaking at times, but I also laughed out loud at other! A classic worth choosing. I will certainly read more of Charlotte Brontë in the future.

Nice but I won't continue the series
Revisado: 08-18-19
I liked the story, although I believe it was slightly underdeveloped. I would have liked a bigger mystery to be uncovered after all the police investigation, or some sort of major plot twist.
About the narrator, I really enjoyed the female voice (Lauren Ezzo), but I disliked the male narrator (Mel Foster) as he made it look as if it was a documentary he was voicing over rather than a fiction book.
