Historia
After a cult tried to sacrifice me to their wicked God, I went on the run, doing whatever was necessary to survive. Until a demon offered me a deal: give him my soul and he'll help me claim the vengeance I seek. Blood will be spilled, and the monsters I once ran from will soon be running from me. But damning my soul was just the beginning; it's my heart the demon wants next.

Super steamy with a great plot
Revisado: 03-13-25
I loved book one and was expecting it to be as good as that, but somehow book 2 is better! So steamy but the plot is really well thought out and executed. Can’t wait to read book 3!

I'm no coward. I want to make that perfectly clear. But after my life turned into a horror movie, I take fear a lot more seriously now. I finally became Dr. Carrie Ames just eight months ago. Then I was attacked in the hospital morgue by a vampire. Just my luck.

Good dark urban fantasy
Revisado: 10-27-23
I enjoyed the story so far, however it’s definitely not a romance. It’s very much a dark urban fantasy/suspense with a love triangle, and elements of romance, but if you’re looking for happy paranormal romance, this is not it. The worst part of this audiobook is the narrator, who seems to think that squeaky hissing voice=evil and weird, breathy Cartman voice=witchy? If it weren’t for the fact that I have a hard time reading physical books due to a disability, I would’ve returned this one and switched to the book. But alas, I’ll have to grit my teeth and deal with it.

While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.

usually i don't particularly enjoy decluttering books because it's all the same advice or it's weirdly unattainable, but this was very down to earth and had easy methods of tackling the madness!

Historia
In the latest installment of The Vampire Chronicles, Anne Rice summons up dazzling worlds to bring us the story of Armand—eternally young, with the face of a Botticelli angel. We go with Armand across the centuries to the Kiev Rus of his boyhood - a ruined city under Mongol dominion—and to ancient Constantinople, where Tartar raiders sell him into slavery. And in a magnificent palazzo in the Venice of the Renaissance we see him emotionally and intellectually in thrall to the great vampire Marius.

Favorite book with the worst narrator
Revisado: 04-05-23
This is probably my favorite Anne Rice book, if not The Vampire Lestat, yet the narrator was very much lacking. His narration was extremely dry and monotone, making one of my favorite books a struggle to finish.

With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

One of the best books
Revisado: 05-05-22
Having had similar experiences growing up, this book hit really close to home for me and I'm so grateful that it was written. I initially read the paperback back when it was released, but it happened across my radar once again 7 years later when I needed it most. I can't recommend this book enough - especially because it was narrated by Alan Cumming himself.

In a quest for a simpler life, Helen and Nate have abandoned the comforts of suburbia to take up residence on 44 acres of rural land where they will begin the ultimate, aspirational do-it-yourself project: building the house of their dreams. When they discover that this beautiful property has a dark and violent past, Helen, a former history teacher, becomes consumed by the local legend of Hattie Breckenridge, a woman who lived and died there a century ago.

Why was this marketed as horror?
Revisado: 05-25-20
It's paranormal suspense with hints of genaeology/family saga kinda vibes. It's definitely NOT horror, though yes, there is a ghost and yes, there are a few creepy parts, this is absolutely not a horror novel. I was so excited to read it because it got really great reviews, but unfortunately imo, it doesn't really deliver.
For every question answered, there are 5 that go unanswered, most importantly: how the hell does someone learn to build an entire house on YouTube and then proceed to do it in a relatively short amount of time with very few mentioned mistakes?? I mean YouTube is great for many things but uh... That seems a little weird to me.
BUT... If you happen to be into suspenseful stories with cameo appearances of witches, ghosts, genaeology, treasure, and a different idea of a haunting, this book may be for you! To every book its reader, it just wasn't quite right for me.

I didn't think it could be better than the film
Revisado: 11-22-18
I loved how in depth this book was when exploring the characters I seemingly barely got to know in the film. I didn't know what I was missing before reading this but I think this is the real story and the film is a very good visual companion because they couldn't have hoped to fit all the extra details into the visual format without it being too lengthy. This was just what I needed to fill the gaps in character stories and the overall plot.

Historia
Sixteen-year-old Solomon is agoraphobic. He hasn't left the house in three years, which is fine by him. Ambitious Lisa desperately wants to get into the second-best psychology program for college (she's being realistic). But how can she prove she deserves a spot there? Solomon is the answer. Determined to "fix" Sol, Lisa thrusts herself into his life, introducing him to her charming boyfriend, Clark, and confiding her fears in him. Soon all three teens are far closer than they thought they'd be, and when their facades fall down, their friendships threaten to collapse as well.

Fantastic book
Revisado: 11-05-18
As an agoraphobe, this book really hit home (pun intended) for me. I really loved that the author didn't try to glorify or romanticize mental illness or make all of the characters highly likeable, but that's what made it so good. The narration was also really good, which really added to the story. I can't recommend this book enough - go read it right now (I read it in one sitting)!

Historia
Rose is the youngest of seven children, meant to replace her dead sister. Maybe because of that, she’s never really fit in. She’s always felt different, out of place, a restless wanderer in a family of homebodies. So when an enormous white bear mysteriously shows up and asks her to come away with him - in exchange for health and prosperity for her ailing family - she readily agrees. Rose travels on the bear’s broad back to a distant and empty castle, where she is nightly joined by a mysterious stranger.

One day read!
Revisado: 10-22-18
I loved this book so much I finished the whole thing in one day. I read this a long time ago when it first came out and I remember loving it then, so on a whim I got the audiobook even though I remembered next to nothing about the plot. I was absolutely not disappointed - especially when I found out that the sequel is being released tomorrow!
