Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the people and story are so well drawn and researched, one starts to wonder whether Alma Whittaker had been left out of the pages of botanical history. With links to the discovers of the age, this story delves into evolutionary theory and botanical wonder.

What made the experience of listening to Eucalyptus the most enjoyable?

The lyrical, poetic and very Australian story has a magic to it. It is layered with stories that gently unfold and tell about the history of people and eucalypts.

There is a reverence for beauty and no nonsense truth.

Would you listen to Bring Up the Bodies again? Why?

Yes, over and over again. Hilary Mantell's writing is masterly and is a joy to revisit.

What did you like best about this story?

Human faults are timeless, human strengths are timeless. This is a story about both strength and frailty, told with elegance, wit and skill.

What does Julian Rhind Tutt bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration is sublime, we are not read to but are listening to the characters dice and duel with each other.

Who was the most memorable character of Bring Up the Bodies and why?

There is only one character and that is Thomas Cromwell.

Any additional comments?

If you could sum up Bereft in three words, what would they be?

deep, wise and courageous

What other book might you compare Bereft to and why?

A little like Tim Winton's Breath as it takes you to the dark places of what it means to be alive.

What about Dan Wyllie’s performance did you like?

Dan Wyllie gives voices to the ordinary people, to the unpretentious raw Australian voice.

If you could rename Bereft, what would you call it?

Just a little alive

Any additional comments?

Chris Womersley has written a classic, the writing is luminous, it shimmers and sparkles as the narrative unfolds. Listen with patience and you will be rewarded

Loving it all over again

These narrators take me back to the magic of AA Milne's beloved characters and stories.
Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer are sublime, Stephen Fry and Jane Horrocks are perfect.
At 5 years old or 50 (like me), there is much love and fun in these stories about the silly old bear.
I adored being read to as a child and still do.
Highly recommended!
