First, I need to say that I only listened to season 1, so this review might not pertain to subsequent seasons.
It's clear that a lot of creativity and effort have gone into making this podcast. I really like how the ads are done in character--the scripting and style made me think they were part of the story until I realized there were for real sponsors--very clever!
However, I was not impressed by much else. The premise and characters have potential, but there just isn't enough development to satisfy me. The episodes are very short. In the first season, at least, each episode is only about 15 minutes and the situation is resolved, then the characters are doing something completely different in the next. There are a few "background" plot lines that keep going, but such short chapters/acts left me wanting a more fully developed story. I would love to listen to a fully formed novel featuring the crew of the Yellow Submarine, though.
And last, the thin writing is somewhat camouflaged by the production. Way. Too. Much. Production. Sound effects and quirkiness are like salt: Just enough makes the steak sizzle. Too much makes you gag.

Excellent story, good narration, but...
Revisado: 09-02-20
Fascinating content and the author does a good job of narrating his work. The reason I only gave three stars is that each episode average is about 25 minutes. Audible is not set up like a regular podcast service, so having to look for the next episode every few minutes made it almost not worth finishing the series. I would have loved either having this as a single audiophile, or being able to select a setting that would allow it to just flow episode after episode. If you can get past that technical part, I highly recommend the story.

Historia
Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her. While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name.

Disappointing on every level
Revisado: 01-29-19
The narrator is annoying, the plot is cookie cutter, and the culprit was obvious from the first hour. After three hours, I couldn't stand it anymore. I decided to skip to the end and verify my prediction. If I were wrong about who tried to kill her, I would have forced myself to put up with the narrator's smarmy rendition of female characters in order to see the real clues. But, no, I was spared hours of listening because the book was every bit as contrived and obvious as I'd feared.

Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

Too long for a story that goes nowhere . . .
Revisado: 06-18-15
The characters could be interesting, but they have no depth, nothing to make them resonate. Even though this is the first book in a series, I expected something of importance to happen. Instead it's just, "creepy guy has stolen something valuable, but he doesn't know what, so he meets with other characters to help him figure it out, then runs and leaves them to get beaten up or killed. Over and over and over. No big revelations, no relationship forming with the woman who decides to accompany him - - and foot the bill - - just blah, blah, blah. It seems like this story should have been a single book, not a series. I won't waste a credit to learn if the story gets better in the second book. Disappointing, as this author's work is usually highly entertaining.

Fun thrill ride! I couldn't stop listening - - good thing I started this novel on a Saturday! I'll definitely be shopping for more by this author. The narrator did a good job, with just one little hiccup: the repeated and consistent mispronounciation of "debris." It jarred me out of the story every time - - and the word is used a lot. Overall, though, I was very pleased with this purchase.

Historia
Transported from the mid-twentieth century to New York City in the year 1882, Si Morley walks the fashionable "Ladies' Mile" of Broadway, is enchanted by the jingling sleigh bells in Central Park, and solves a 20th-century mystery by discovering its 19th-century roots. Falling in love with a beautiful young woman, he ultimately finds himself forced to choose between his lives in the present and the past. A story that will remain in the listener's memory, Time and Again is a remarkable blending of the troubled present and a nostalgic past....

Boring, a Huge Disappointment
Revisado: 02-09-12
Would you try another book from Jack Finney and/or Paul Hecht?
Absolutely not.
What was most disappointing about Jack Finney’s story?
There is no real plot. The main character doesn't have to do anything extraordinary to time travel; he just uses hypnosis. Then, when he is in the past, he pretty much just walks around and looks at things. I kept waiting for something -- anything -- to happen. I finally gave up at the halfway point.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Paul Hecht?
Sure. He didn't bring any personality to the reading, but he didn't do anything wrong, either. I'd give him another try.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I love most of Stephen King's books, so I jumped on his recommendation of this book, thinking that such a talented writer would only recommend something stellar. I cannot understand what kept King's interest at all.
Any additional comments?
The only reason I shopped for this book is because Stephen King recommended it, and I'm sure hundreds of his other fans would say the same. King had to know what a huge influence he would have on Finney's sales. Shame on him for wasting our money and our time.

It caused instant addiction, followed by an excruciating slow death, and there was no known antidote. It was a killer. Supposedly the drug had been totally eradicated from the humanx galaxy years before. At least that's what everyone thought. But somehow, mysteriously, that dreadful substance was back in circulation on Repler and threatening to wreak havoc throughout the known galaxy.Someone somewhere was secretly manufacturing Bloodhype, but nobody seemed to know where or who!

Great Story, Lousy Narrator
Revisado: 02-16-11
The Pip and Flinx series is wonderful, and I was looking forward to revisiting my favorites in audio, but Stefan Rudnicki is absolutely the wrong narrator for these books. Bloodhype is my favorite novel in the series, definitely worth five stars, but the deep, stilted narration kept me from listening past chapter one. Since Rudnicki narrates the whole series, I will not be wasting any more credits. It's too bad that Alan Dean Foster's fantastic characters and writing are ruined in the audiobooks.
