Agonizing start... but hang in there

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-31-11

The beginning of this book droned on so that in desparation I skipped the first few chapters. Then it finally grabbed me. There is a lot of soul searching and self-questioning (yawn) that I could have done without but all in all, once again, I enjoyed the book. I love both the narrator's.

cookie cutter formula book - blech

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-19-11

This book is a total ripoff of the platform of another author. Worse than that, after I gave it a chance and read book 2, it was the unbelievable carbon copy of the first book in the series. Almost page by page.

The characters are interesting but the dialogue is nauseating. There is real potential here to have good interesting stories and romantic men and women. Readers need more good paranormal writers so badly that I was so very disappointed and let down by this. I had hoped I'd found a new series to get lost in. Instead I decided it was pretty pitiful that I was so desperate for it that I'd settle for reading something this awful

I'm not a quitter..... but I QUIT

Total
1 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-12-10

I gave up. This book has no heart. I can't find a hook. Not one character I can hold on to. I slogged through to the end of the first part and then ... I still didn't have a desire to read it. So, I skipped to the last part because everyone said that was the best part but still nothing. I wont read anymore of this book or it's sequel. Thank goodness I bought it on sale.

Great read despite the strange and wierd horns

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 10-01-10

After reading the two preceding books, I Still can not figure out what the deal is with the horns. I can live with them, I just don't understand their purpose. I love this series and though it took me a while to snuggle in with all the characters, I feel as close to them now as I do with Jamie and Claire of the Outlander series. I'm glad I stuck with this one. The only reason it didn't get a five star rating was because of the excessive battle descriptions which I consider a cop out for book filler. He's got a better writers brain and shouldn't be stooping to such silly tactics.

Glad I took a chance on this

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-22-10

One of the reviews for this book almost spooked me from getting it but I had a feeling so I took a chance and I'm so glad I did. I admit that at first I thought I'd made a mistake but I hung in there and even had to go back and relisten a couple of times. It finally caught me when the writer sits down to record the story of his life. The narrator is SO good. I don't think I've heard one so good since DaVina with the Outlander series. I'm totally hooked now and will have to listen to them all. If you want a good listen that will draw you in and whisk you off to another place and time, be patient, hang in there and give Patrick and Nick a chance.

Also glad it was free and I AM a fantasy reader

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 07-23-10

I am BARELY hanging on to this story. I'm into the third part and the pace of this book is SCREAMINGLY slow and predictable. Obvious solutions to problems are ignored while the author goes ON AND ON about mundane things. If you want to write an epic book like this, it has to MOVE. Look at Diana Gabaldon who knows how to keep you engaged for hours, or Brandon Sanderson.

I disagree about the narrator as well. He does great character voices but his narrator voice makes me want to scream. If I was reading this book instead of listening to it, I'd be scanning like crazy to get to a little action every now and then.

Only die hard fantasy fans, desperate for a read and with unending patience should try to read this book. I have to finish it now because that's how I roll but others should take heed.

this is actually a good story .. BUT

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 02-15-10

I wanted to SCREAM at the narrator to get on with it at times. He pauses and reads in such a monotone that it ruins the action. His voice drops you into such a dark depression that it sucks every bit of joy from what could be a really good listen.

I guess I'm going to have get the rest of the books on my reader to escape his voice since I see he's been allowed to read the rest of them too.

From now on, I'll make sure he's not the reader before I purchase a story.

No way two people could actually be this clueless

Total
2 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-06-09

By the time I got to the middle of this book I wanted to scream with agitation, frustration and impatience. NO ONE could be as stupid and misbegotten as these two people. The silly assumptions and mis-communications ruined what could have been a really good story line. I know Ms. Moning has to be a better writer than this. I assume she is trying to stay true to the romance formula but really this took it too far. How can people who read these books be satisfied with the same plot over and over again.

I ran out of other fantasy paranormal books so I turned to this one. Unfortunately, it fell too close to my read of Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon and that's like comparing Stephen Hawking's superior mind! to a first grade primer.

I'm going to try and remember that frustration the next time I'm tempted to read a romance again. I gave it two stars because it had a good idea for the story. I'm just sorry she couldn't flesh it out better.

That swallowing thing

Rosenblat is a good performer but the swallowing thing is hugely distracting. It just seems like the production people or the director could do something about it.

cute and fun

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 12-11-08

It took me a while to get into this story because although I think the narrator is very good at creating character voices, I didn't think her husky older sounding voice fit the personality of Aisling. It just kept bugging me all through the recording.

Another thing that bothered me was the constant rustling of paper in the background and the swallowing noises of the reader. It actually sounded like she was eating or sucking on candy or something. I don't ever remember listening to another book with so much saliva swallowing in it ever. Even though the story was good, I kept having to fight my way through it because of the narrator. I think she would be really really good if she can learn how not to rustle the paper of the script and tone down or edit the very loud swishing and swallowing in her mouth. yuck
