Historia
Audie Award, Narration by Author, 2016. Raised by unconventional Irish Catholics who knew "how to drink, how to dance, how to talk, and how to stir up the devil", Kate Mulgrew grew up with poetry and drama in her bones. But in her mother, a would-be artist burdened by the endless arrival of new babies, young Kate saw the consequences of a dream deferred.

A fantastic memoir!
Revisado: 10-12-17
Only Kate Mulgrew could have performed her own story so amazingly! I loved it from the first sentence. She took me into events, complications, successes, sorrows and losses, and loves through the entire book. And then..... The discussion of her life within the book, with Rosie O'Donnell moved me to tears and laughter out loud, all over again! A truly beautiful story! It's so rarely that I feel like starting a book immediately after finishing. This is one!

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

Historia
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.

Cute.

Cute story and characters. Wondering if the frequent and many mispronounced words are intentional or written into the book that way. It's a little bit distracting but adds humor as well. Think I'll check out another in the series.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

With ribald humor, wit, and incredible insight, Alan seamlessly moves back and forth in time, integrating stories from his childhood in Scotland and his experiences today as the celebrated actor of film, television, and stage. At times suspenseful, at times deeply moving, but always incredibly brave and honest, Not My Father's Son is a powerful story of embracing the best aspects of the past and triumphantly pushing the darkness aside.

Historia
Not only do Southerners talk slowly, but sometimes the whole language is hard to understand. No one realizes that more than Memphis belle Leelee Satterfield. Watching her tackle life and love in Vermont was only the tip of the iceberg when it came to antics, charades, mischief, and romance. Now that she’s back in Memphis, and starting a new relationship with Peter, the Yankee chef from her New England inn, you’d think she’d sit back and enjoy her newly crafted life back home in Dixie. But that just wouldn’t be as much fun.

Missed the narrator Marguerite Gavin.....
Revisado: 03-06-15
What made the experience of listening to Southern As A Second Language: A Novel the most enjoyable?
The goofy neighbor!
Would you be willing to try another book from Lisa Patton? Why or why not?
Yes, I enjoy the southern-ness.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lisa Patton’s performances?
Nooooo..............she should really stick with writing. She ruined this book for me.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no, I had to take breaks from her voice. Actually skipped some parts to get to the end.
Any additional comments?
I think I have to return this one, sadly.

Historia
Abandoned by her mother and widowed in her mid-20s, Cora Sylvan has learned the hard way that you should take nothing in life for granted. So everything is planned out to the last detail - from how to run her farm on a shoestring, to how to survive a major earthquake. Unfortunately there's nothing in those notes to cover the return of the infuriatingly handsome Mac Wildwood, her husband's cousin, the man she loved and lost.
