Historia
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

excellent narration performance
Revisado: 05-18-24
Narrator pulled off many different accents wonderfully adding to the mood of the story. The author experience wove together multiple independent characters and plot lines that intersect as the story unfolds.

Historia
Why did the Democrats initially abandon their principles, and why haven’t they been able to grasp that they need a new strategy in the face of decades of diminishing returns? In Chaotic Neutral, political scientist Ed Burmila breaks it to us, tracing the party’s metamorphosis from bold defender of labor rights, civil rights, and a robust social safety net to a timorous, ideology-free, regulation-averse lifestyle brand.

learned a lot about the Democratic party over history, but lacked any detail or depth of why we are worse off than we have been ever before.

Historia
From the perilous ocean crossing to the shared bounty of the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim settlement of New England has become enshrined as our most sacred national myth. Yet, as best-selling author Nathaniel Philbrick reveals in his spellbinding new book, the true story of the Pilgrims is much more than the well-known tale of piety and sacrifice; it is a 55-year epic that is at once tragic, heroic, exhilarating, and profound.

Historical facts that should be taught in school!
Revisado: 02-13-23
Riveting story of the birth of our nation. It did get bogged down into very minute details of Phillip's War in the last third of the book. This book probably could have been two to three hours shorter without sacrificing the essential theme.

As one of the music world’s most iconic artists and the cofounder of the organizations ONE and (RED), Bono’s career has been written about extensively. But in Surrender, it’s Bono who picks up the pen, writing for the first time about his remarkable life and those he has shared it with. In his unique voice, Bono takes us from his early days growing up in Dublin, including the sudden loss of his mother when he was fourteen, to U2’s unlikely journey to become one of the world’s most influential rock bands, to his more than twenty years of activism.

Great narrative of a remarkable life
Revisado: 01-08-23
"reading" this in audio format is the only way to go to feel the emotion behind the stories. funny, touching, sad, uplifting. I steer away from memoirs because the thought of hearing one's life through a single lens does not interest me. Bono's self-deprecating story takes accountability for group failures but does not take credit for their success. Highly recommend for even the most casual U2 fan.

Informative book that provides facts not fiction.

Heavy on very detailed data that made it sound, at times, like a book meant for academia. Still, an essential read for anyone frustrated to hear the rhetoric that comes from politicians and ignorant gun supporters who don't know the facts.

Creative story but not captivating

I liked the subject matter and plot, but it lacked suspense or any visceral tension; perhaps, because it was written in the first-person narrative.

Historia
North America was settled by people with distinct religious, political, and ethnographic characteristics, creating regional cultures that have been at odds with one another ever since. Subsequent immigrants didn't confront or assimilate into an "American" or "Canadian" culture, but rather into one of the 11 distinct regional ones that spread over the continent each staking out mutually exclusive territory. In American Nations, Colin Woodard leads us on a journey through the history of our fractured continent....
