Historia
Inventor, girl genius Tinker lives in a near-future Pittsburgh which now exists mostly in the land of the elves. She runs her salvage business, pays her taxes, and tries to keep the local ambient level of magic down with gadgets of her own design. When a pack of wargs chase an Elven noble into her scrap yard, life as she knows it takes a serious detour.

world building is interesting... but very rapey/pedo vibes and child bride situation is unjustified and uncomfortable to read.
Revisado: 12-11-24
The Good: the voice actor's performance was dinámica and well paced! and the world building was interesting and complex in a fun way.
The Bad and Ugly: Oof I tried to listed to this book several times and it was only on a mindless listen while doing tasks that I pushed myself to get through it for the world building of it. I will not be reading more of the series.
Tinker's interactions with all of the men were too forward in their attraction of her and were super creepy and uncomfortable. Tinker, a CHILD (she's 17 this whole book) had multiple men who were 10 years and thousands of years older than her, pushed themselves onto her and one even raped her and tricked her into a child marriage (even by the book's standards she was described as a child). She was gaslit into being ok with it and the writer has some weird glorification of her virginity to further validate the violation. Men kept making comments about how sexy and childlike she is and how attractive they are to her, one telling her he's been horny for her since she was freaking 15! Tinker's character was painfully written and too much of her drive was so centered on pining after the men in her life that all just wanted to either screw her literally or figuratively except for her cousin.
Overall I'm disappointed and sad that this world can't be explored without this kind of ethos being an intricate part of its exploration.

Historia
The Shape of the Ruins is a masterly story of conspiracy, political obsession, and literary investigation. When a man is arrested at a museum for attempting to steal the bullet-ridden suit of a murdered Colombian politician, few notice. But soon this thwarted theft takes on greater meaning as it becomes a thread in a widening web of popular fixations with conspiracy theories, assassinations, and historical secrets; and it haunts those who feel that only they know the real truth behind these killings.

fun and interesting journey through Colombian conspiracies
Revisado: 11-18-24
As a bilingual Colombian; this was a fun and interesting journey through some important and key moments of Colombian history and the multitude of unanswered questions surrounding the plague of corruption and violence that have persisted through time.
Having said that, I am deeply disappointed that they did not find someone bilingual enough to properly pronounce the Spanish words and street names as it really takes away from the narrative and, in an unexpected way, the identity of the places and people they describe.

Imagine a job where you work four days a week and earn as much as the CEO. You also get full benefits, a gym membership, free lunch, and unlimited time off, no questions asked. Hard-won profits don’t just end up in the CEO’s pocket—they’re distributed equally among all employees. The company even buys you your very own car. It sounds too good to be true, but this is the reality at Tunnel Vision, the clothing company that Madeline Pendleton built from the ground up.

Real, kind and hopeful

I enjoyed having the money lessons tied to their life experience and the way in which she wasn't condescending to the reader. I appreciate the truths and care regarding the struggle and strain of poverty as well as useful information in dealing with the types of financial strain folks are trying to overcome.
