Historia
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

Meh
Revisado: 10-27-23
The narrator didn’t do this book any justice. The characters are bland and simple and so is the narrator’s voice. I love to imagine what characters look and sound like when reading a book but because the characters were so undeveloped it was an odd listening experience for me.

Historia
Set in the 19th century, Isabel Miller's classic lesbian novel traces the relationship between Patience White and Sarah Dowling, whose romantic bond does not sit well with their puritanical New England community. In addition to being an inspiring love story, the audiobook for Patience and Sarah is an ideal listen for young-adult audiences. It is a story that shows how irrelevant race, religion, and gender are to love and that loving and being loved are what keep us human and sane.

Quiet Surprise
Revisado: 06-14-16
I was quietly surprised and entertained by the gentle storytelling of these two pioneer women and their inspirational love.

Historia
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Forgettable, hopefully...
Revisado: 04-02-16
It's obvious the author is a gifted writer but not a storyteller, at least not for me. I didn't connect to the characters at all, nor did I find them believable. Jude annoyed me at times as well as his too good to be true friends. The violence and abuse were exaggerated just as the compassion and patience of his friends were. Almost every character was inherently evil or a saint, excluding JB who wasn't interesting to me in the slightest. Depressing from start to finish, not even a glimmer of hope or joy was to be found.

Historia
After trying to help Benjamin Pearl, an undernourished, nearly feral 11-year-old boy living in the Montana wilderness, social worker Pete Snow comes face-to-face with the boy's profoundly disturbed father, Jeremiah. With courage and caution, Pete slowly earns a measure of trust from this paranoid survivalist itching for a final conflict that will signal the coming End Times. But as Pete's own family spins out of control, Pearl's activities spark the full-blown interest of the FBI, putting Pete at the center of a massive manhunt from which no one will emerge unscathed.

I really enjoyed this audio book. The narrators brought the characters to life with vivid and compelling performances allowing me to lose myself in this masterfully written story.

Danielle Steel meets Stieg Larsson, sorta ;)
Revisado: 07-11-14
Would you consider the audio edition of The Witness to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version.
If you’ve listened to books by Nora Roberts before, how does this one compare?
I haven't listened to her before but I wanted to keep listening despite knowing the story was predictable.
Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?
Obviously the main character Elizabeth was the most complex and is is favored by me and undoubtably by others.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Sorry, but I can't recall a moving moment but perhaps a few slightly anxious ones.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed the audio book but I didn't feel like it "moved" me or felt as though I had witnessed greatness, just an economical plot coupled with a very good writer, one who knows a broad audience that doesn't want to be literally challenged. We need good endings!!!!! :D
