Historia
If you cut off a spider's leg, it's crippled; if you cut off its head, it dies. But if you cut off a starfish's leg it grows a new one, and the old leg can grow into an entirely new starfish. The Starfish and the Spider argues that organizations fall into two categories: "spiders", which have a rigid hierarchy, and "starfish", which rely on the power of peer relationships.

Somewhat useful
Revisado: 06-19-23
The major point that comes to me is that there is resilience in decentralization. He does tour the hybrid view but there wasn't much that I felt I could apply with what he gave for hybrid biz. It would have been better if he focused more on that rather than the last chapter or few minutes

Self-help rather than biz solutions
Revisado: 06-09-23
Was really looking for material that will help our business manage significant growth but most are story's that I couldn't relate to (teenage business startups about bees, insects, etc). This will address your personal S-curve rather than business solutions or strategies

Typical
Revisado: 10-23-15
Good principles. Wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking but just wanted some reminder data. It was pretty typical of the self-help genre.
I guess it's still on my mind since it was one of his last examples but I would probably nix using Lance Armstrong as great story of endurance and attributing it to drive and a principle of his book. It's hard to hear him talk about Armstrong without thinking it was really just steroids and blood transfusions.

Historia
Have we been taught to discount the veracity and deeper meaning of our emotional resonance with the world around us? In The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis looks at the curriculum of the English "prep school" and begins to wonder if this subliminal teaching has indeed produced a generation who discount such a nature.

Awkward combination
Revisado: 10-10-15
Combining the Great Divorce and the Abolition of Man came across fairly awkward different types of work. That was hard to say anything from CS Lewis would be bad, I felt that the evolution of man was a little boring to me, though some very important and great points involved.
That said, the Great Divorce was a great book and the reading by Vance was outstanding. I believe Mr. Lewis would have approved.

Historia
Through the ages, mankind has pursued questions of faith in something beyond the world of ordinary experience. Is there a God? How can we explain the presence of evil? Do humans, or human souls, live on after death? Is there a hell? The following lectures examine these eternal questions and present the most compelling arguments for and against God's existence, the seeming conflicts between religion and science, and the different truth-claims of the world's most popular religions.

Outstanding
Revisado: 10-08-15
The first chapter was a bit dry but he quickly delves deep and allows the brain get to work. Thoroughly enjoyed Prof. Kreeft's knowledge and presentation. Also purchased his lectures on Aquinas and will look for other subjects by him as well because I will know of it's quality

Historia
Marcellino D'Ambrosio dusts off what might have been just dry theology to bring you the exciting stories of great heroes such as Ambrose, Augustine, Basil, Athanasius, John Chrysostom, and Jerome. These brilliant, embattled, and sometimes eccentric men defined the biblical canon, hammered out the Creed, and gave us our understanding of sacraments and salvation. It is they who preserved the rich legacy of the early Church for us.

An apology and histories of the Catholicism
Revisado: 10-06-15
A good book but pretty disappointing. The author did a good job but unfortunately the book seem to be an apology written for the Catholic Church. Where in the book he even substitutes 'Catholic' rather than 'Christian'.
He was very knowledgeable and it was very informative. After reading the reviews I went in knowing there may be some Catholic bias but felt it was really more than just bias but a defense of numerous Catholic doctrines and opinions.
