Historia
It is the most famous military installation in the world. And it doesn't exist. Located a mere s75 miles outside of Las Vegas in Nevada's desert, the base has never been acknowledged by the US government - but Area 51 has captivated imaginations for decades. Annie Jacobsen had exclusive access to 19 men who served the base proudly and secretly for decades and are now aged 75-92, and unprecedented access to 55 additional military and intelligence personnel, scientists, pilots, and engineers linked to the secret base, 32 of whom lived and worked there for extended periods.

I feel like I was fooled
Revisado: 12-05-24
I was really going along with her until the final chapter when she goes completely off the rails. She reveals a very unique conspiracy theory about Roswell. Clearly her source for this was playing with her and I think made her into a complete fool.

Historia
From two former military officers and award-winning authors comes a chillingly authentic geopolitical thriller that imagines a naval clash between the US and China in the South China Sea in 2034 - and the path from there to a nightmarish global conflagration.

Totally unrealistic
Revisado: 01-02-22
I can't really get into all the reasons why this story is unrealistic without spoiling it for those who want to listen despite my review, but the part about India and the amount of damage tactical nuke can do is unrealistic even though it is 21 years in the future. What is realistic is that the US, given the damage that Trump and the ensuing Republican party had done to the functionality of the government over those 21 years, will lead to our weakness and inability to fight a conventional war with China.

Historia
One August afternoon, on the shoreline of the Kamchatka peninsula at the northeastern edge of Russia, two girls - sisters, eight and 11 - go missing. In the ensuing weeks, then months, the police investigation turns up nothing. Echoes of the disappearance reverberate across a tightly woven community, with the fear and loss felt most deeply among its women. Taking us through a year in Kamchatka, Disappearing Earth enters with astonishing emotional acuity the worlds of a cast of richly drawn characters, all connected by the crime: a witness, a neighbor, a detective, a mother.

Annoying story
Revisado: 06-12-19
Several times I considered giving up on this book because it was so annoying with all the rabbit holes which had nothing to do with the main storyline. I kept wondering if there were clues being revealed but it was just overboard character building or to get across how the person felt. It just went on and on and then there was this abrupt ending. I don't know if the author believed there was only one possible outcome and so there was no reason to tell it or she expected the listener to decide it. It is 20 minute short story about some abductions and about 11 hour story of A Day In The Lives Of Various Russian Women (soap opera).

Historia
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Not just entertainment
Revisado: 12-27-18
This book is by far one of the best I have listened to. It is very well written and narrated. The story is realistic and compelling. Even more importantly to its entertainment quality, it is a true survival guide and I've only scratched the surface. Can't wait for the next in the series.

Exceptional
Revisado: 12-25-18
Not only the story but the narration as well. The story is realistic enough to keep you interested and unwilling to put it aside for a longer enjoyment. It will take you through the full range of possible emotions but it ends with a happy cry and belief that as bad as us humans can be, it our benevolent nature that will win out. Apocalypse is utter destruction but if some if the human race can survive it then there is room for enlightenment to fallow.

Historia
Armored cars, burner phones, top-notch weaponry, and top-secret missions - this is the life of today's private military contractor. Like author Simon Chase, many PMCs were once the world's top military operatives, and since retiring from outfits like US Navy SEAL TEAM Six and the UK's Special Boat Service, they have devoted their lives to executing missions too sensitive for the government to acknowledge. Chase reveals here for the first time the operations too hazardous and politically volatile to be officially sanctioned by his employers.

I didn't finish this book. Once you descend into paranoia and stalking I was done with it. what a dumb ass to think Obama or Clinton would sent agents after because of what you experienced in Libya. yes, they mislead the public for a few days but tbe truth is that no one can put the blaime on Clinton of Obama.

Humorous, surprising, and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

A good listen for evangelical Christians
Revisado: 08-04-18
I attribute this book as a good listen for evangelicals because it is like medicine for those suffering from fanatical religious beliefs, which then manifests into hatred for those who do not share their religion and political perspective. For those who are already more enlightened then they will find a few tidbits which will help them grow but they will find even more which will make them cringe. This is because the Bible is not a foundation of absolute devine truth in which all ethical theory must be based on. If you belive that it is then by all means please listen to this book. If you don't then there are better books in this genre.

Historia
She used to work for the US government, but very few people ever knew that. An expert in her field, she was one of the darkest secrets of an agency so clandestine it doesn't even have a name. And when they decided she was a liability, they came for her without warning. Now she rarely stays in the same place or uses the same name for long. They've killed the only other person she trusted, but something she knows still poses a threat. They want her dead, and soon.

Historia
With Barack Obama's historic election in 2008, pundits proclaimed the Republicans as dead as the Whigs of yesteryear. Yet even as Democrats swooned, a small cadre of Republican operatives, including Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie, and Chris Jankowski, began plotting their comeback with a simple yet ingenious plan. These men had devised a way to take a tradition of dirty tricks - known to political insiders as "ratf**king" - to a whole new unprecedented level.

A good read but I was left depressed
Revisado: 06-02-17
It's hard to love a book about a train wreck in motion but this one is well written and narrated. I think that regardless of your political perspective, if you're interested in living in a true representative democracy then you will have to agree that no part can be allowed to corrupt the election process so that they dominate regardless of the number of votes.

Historia
In today's post-truth political landscape, there is a carefully concealed but ever-growing industry of organized misinformation that exists to create and disseminate lies in the service of political agendas. Ari Rabin-Havt and Media Matters for America present a revelatory history of this industry - which they've dubbed Lies, Incorporated - and show how it has crippled legislative progress on issues including tobacco regulation, public health care, climate change, gun control, immigration, abortion, and same-sex marriage.

Conspiracy to disseminate lies should be a crime.
Revisado: 05-30-17
Not that it should be easy to prove because we definitely want to protect free speach, but lies of the nature discussed in this book are like intellectual terrorism. This activity going unchecked by criminal consequences will be much more destructive to our democracy than any foreign power or terrorist organization could possibly be.
