Don’t even hesitate to use a credit (or purchase) this book. It was PHENOMENAL! I read a lot and I love thrillers. This book was a thriller but also so unique and brilliantly written. I can’t wait to discover her other books!

Let me start by saying, I read/listen to A LOT of books. Like 2 or 3 a week. Out of all the books I read, only a select few have earned the right to be considered part of my top favorite reads (because who can pick only one?). I am 100% in love with this story. I was quickly invested in all the characters. The writing was so beautiful and so well put together. Nothing felt rushed or unanswered (except for those plots left to be discovered by the rest of the series - oh yes - this is book one of an entire series). I am so impressed with this author and I hope she keeps these amazing stories coming!

What exactly am I supposed to get from this book?

So is the moral of the story buy a carbon monoxide detector? Take your meds (even though mental health doesn’t play a role in the book, the main character is just deranged)? The house is on a murder spree? Don’t go camping? I’m not sure but none of it made for a good ending. While I appreciate the author’s notes on mental illness, I don’t understand what it has to do with the book except one character was a grief counselor? Very disappointed with this one.

I read/listen to at LEAST one book a week and this is the first one to EVER make me cry (not in a bad way but in like how the movie Titanic made you cry). My god was this book EXCELLENTLY written and BRILLIANTLY narrated. This is the best book I’ve read in 2 years. Thank you to the author who wrote such lyrical prose and to the narrator who read every character absolutely perfectly. I wish I could give 10 stars because this book deserves the praise!

I absolutely ADORED this book. It’s a great mystery set in the Georgian era but draws many comparisons to current social situations. If you like Bridgerton but wish it had a little more mystery to it - you will LOVE this! I truly enjoyed every page!

I love Wendy Webb’s work but I will admit I wasn’t a fan of her last book. I was worried this would disappoint but it FAR exceeded my expectations. I think this is her best book yet! It’s haunting but endearing. Dark but beautiful. Creepy but filled with love. Well done Wendy!!
