The series has been on a massive decline since book three. Now it's just literary masturbation. The author even has a chapter soley dedicated to making the voice actor jump through hoops.

You'll notice many reviewers claim they won't be buying the next book (even if they gave it a positive review); there's a reason for it.

Big build up, preachy ending

Puts CS Lewis to shame with the religious preaching. Massive Deus Ex Machina ending (even obviously acknowledged by the author).

Very disappointing, with multiple threads getting no real conclusion.

An ambitious sequel

This story deviates in style somewhat from Master of Sorrows, but does so in magnificent fashion. It's evident that Call planned the series, as multiple references from the first book are given much more attention.

The world building is top tier. At the end of this epic entry I'm left anticipating the third entry.

Half a book

It's the first half of a book. It introduces the dilemma, then abruptly stops. Great narration from Marsters, but this feels like a cash grab from the publisher. Wait for the complete book.

Self aggrandising and sycophantic fiction

Well performed, but the story itself is utter crap. This is a great example of why authors shouldn't insert themselves as characters in their books. Also an example of why pop culture references should be treated sparingly - they don't age well.

Despite having high hopes (the series was recommended by more than one person) I was disappointed by the author's seeming inability to produce more than one or two ways to describe things. The dialogue is painfully repetitive, and the characters are flat. The same topics are covered over and over with the subtlety and eloquence of a cinderblock.

After two books of literary lard I am abandoning this quest. I'm sure things/stuff happened, but I lack the patience and masochism to continue.

Poor writing, good production quality

A lot of effort has gone into the Audible production of this book. It's a shame that the source material is so obviously poorly written.

Tropes galore, lazy writing with zero research (it might be fantasy, but at least know the difference between poison and venom). Hamfisted romance scenes, predictable plot twists, and a silly cliffhanger ending.

Don't purchase this book.
